I originally posted this performance back in 2009. It received a shameful single comment. I am posting it again because it's a truly kickass performance and I hope to double the reaction with two comments!
Here is some of what I had said back in 2009:
I remember seeing these shows advertised and thinking, "Really? The David
Hidalgo Band? At the KNITTING FACTORY? No WAY am I missing this!"
But I
did miss these shows. Who knows why. Maybe money, or a super
late start time, or maybe it was just too humid out. (I'm funny that
way.)
It all seemed so random. There was no solo record due. Los
Lobos wasn't in town. I couldn't get much info then and I still can't
now. Maybe David Hidalgo just needed to play. And BOY, does he!
This set cooks!
Recorded on August 3rd, 2004.
For those downloading, the first song is tagged as track 2. Don't fret. This is the whole set.

Allow me to be the first, then. I haven't heard it (yet), but I have no doubt that it will cook because, um, David Hidalgo. One of the finest triple-threat singer-songwriter-guitarists ever, and that's nothing to sneeze at.

Well hell, we can do better'n one comment! I might just leave 2 meself, because this is a good set.
Listening now - very full, 'present' sound. And of course the songs and playing are sublime.
I first saw Los Lobos in the early 90s and always enjoy them (or a solo member) live.
BTW, I have a lot of box sets, and their Mas Y Mas box is one of the best. I'd put it up there with the Buffalo Springfield set, Prince's Purple Rain box, Dylan's TellTale Signs Bootleg Series box, and a few others as one to be sure to get.
Wow. This is an awesome set. I shouldn't be surprised as you said so and second, David Hidalgo is David Hidalgo. Brings me back round to the disparity between the depth of talent of new artists vs. what I have been privileged to see and hear over the past 50 years.
amazing show
Listening to it now, excellent, thanks! I saw them live in Bangkok during their La Bamba world tour, great concert!
He's on fire.
Thanks for this. Have had the good fortune of seeing Los Lobos many times, including a raging set where they opened for The Blasters, and David on tour with Mark Ribot in one of the smaller rooms at Sydney Opera House a while back. That was a wonderful show. Looking forward to spinning this one.

Big LL fan, I've seen them lots of times. Two that come to mind were (1) when I saw them with Dave Alvin subbing for David following his bicycle accident and (2) when we won tickets to a private show sponsored by a local radio station. For the radio show, it was at a bar with capacity of 110. Early show and afterwards we went up to the rooftop for a Bar-B-Q buffet. The band came up to eat and I chatted with Conrad Lozano; Cesar Rosas asked if he could sit with us at our table (he had burritos imported from a place down the street), and I had a chance to talk to David at the bar. They were all super nice. Epic night for my wife and I.
Los Lobos, the worlds most underrated Rock & Roll band. Thanks Sal
Thank you for this. I have been a fan of LL since the early days. The first time I saw them was in SF, when they opened for The Blasters at the Stone on Broadway. It was a very warm muggy SF night, and we youngsters were outside the club drinking Bud talls, waiting for Dave and Phil, when the late great tenor sax player Lee Allen approached us for a beer. As we shared a beer with Lee, he told us this band, LL, was going to be doing great things, and we should get inside to see them, and we did. No turning back.... too many shows to count. thanks again, dave in SF
