I've noticed many new readers, as well the absence of a few long time readers. I thought I'd take a post to talk briefly about the blog for the newcomers, as well as sending regards to those who haven't been here in some time. Here's hoping you are happy and healthy and simply grew tired of me.
It's been 14 years since the first Burning Wood post. How the hell did that happen?
Some things changed and some remained the same. But it's been mostly driven by my absolute passion for music, for better or worse.
THE SIDEBARS:
The Song Of The Day which is on the top left sidebar, began when I was too lazy to write something up about a song that just happened to make my day. It was then suggested by a reader, that I create a mix of the week's selections for those who do not check the blog daily, hence the Songs Of The Week zip on the weekend.
Below the SOTD is the One Sentence Review, which was popular for a few weeks on Instagram, and is now temporarily on hiatus. Saying a lot in just a few words is harder than you think. But that feature will be back up and running any day now.
Below the One Sentence review is the chat box, which needs no explanation. I'm very happy to see that many utilize that space to suggest new music or break some news that we might have missed. Keep it up!
Top Right is the Cover Version of The Day. There is no recap or zip for these daily blasts, and actually, the daily covers often stay up for a day or three, giving everyone a chance at clicking and listening.
Below Today's Covers is something that still seems to confuse some people. "The Best Thing I Listened To Yesterday" is not the artist's best record, nor is it a record that is better than any of the other records I listened to that day. It is simply the record I enjoyed the most, the one that hit the sweet spot for whatever reason on that day.
Now Playing began as something strictly for my own amusement. When I was a kid, I'd write down every record I heard on the radio. I would take notes at concerts and often jot down setlists. I love lists! I made that other blog public hoping it'd be a conversation starter. Not that I think everyone should have an interest in what I listen to each day, but more that it would remind you of great records you might not have heard in some time, or pique your curiousity about a record that may have been off your radar. Just click on that picture right below the NOW PLAYING header and you will access the daily playlists, which are not always random.
I WANT YOUR RECORDS!
Yes I do. I buy and sell vinyl. Once the shop closed, I took everything online and to records shows. I realize you may want to sell your vinyl collection but may not live a reasonable distance from me. Still, it doesn't hurt to contact me. I wouldn't drive from NYC to Atlanta for 100 classic rock records, but I would for a few thousand, if they were worth the trip. There is also a link to BUY my records. Just click RECORDS FOR SALE if you still love buying.
HELP IS NOT MANDATORY
Burning Wood is free. It will always be free. But it is work, no matter how much I love doing it, and it does cost some money to maintain. The donation button is there. There is no obligation.
Well there you have it.
Thanks for 14 years.

As a friend and a reader when I remember may I say congrats on your blogoversary( I just made that up)! There are very few out there I enjoy reading more and your passion is contagious and hugely appreciated.Rock on Sal. Still waiting for your memoir. I know it would be a best seller
Thank you for 14 years Sal.
Sal,
It was 10 years ago this December when my wife and I were sitting in a restaurant in Port Chester, NY having dinner before The Rascals, Once Upon A Dream concert. Our mutual friends Kathy and Dan mentioned your blog and told me that I should check it out. I am glad that I did.
You introduced me to some music that I would never have encountered and you rekindled my love of vinyl records. Two very good things. Thank you.
Happy anny all the way from across the country, doood!!!

Happy birthday Burning Wood. Two or three lifetimes ago I was reading a blog by a guy name Eric Alterman. At the end of his column there would often be a link that simply said “Here’s Sal.” That’s how I found this place and it has introduced to me to so much great music, and insightful and hilarious commentary. Thanks
The Wood! The Wood! The Wood is on FIYAH!
Sorry, I was apparently doing some quaaludes or something here and flashing back to the days of disco when I'd rollerskate to "Disco Inferno" by the Trammps ...
I may be one of the original originators in terms of fans of BW .. I stepped onboard this clatterin' train of musical mojo on August 30, 2010. How do I know with such verite? That's the earliest BW mix on my iTunes!
The XTC song "King For A Day" was in that mix. Sal, you've been king o' the blogoverse for many of us since then. Happy 14th.
Looking forward to the next 14!
Hey, I'm in Cali and I only have three albums, but one of them is the Beatles and another Michael Jackson's Off The Wall, the album before he became a big star. Will you make a trip out here to check them out?
Hola Sal! I see you listened to Sloan's 12 album instead of my suggestion, Action Pact. I hope to see on the list one day.
OK, I'm going to try to get hip to Blogger's norms... for no special reason, all these years, I'd been typing in A Walk In The Woods as my nom de plume and not having a normal profile.
At the risk of throwin' things outta whack, I'm going to try just logging under my name, Noel. Or The Noel Formerly Known As Walk In The Woods, if preferred.
Either way, another high-five to you for 14 years, Sal!
Wait, is Noel M actually Prince?
My main computer crashed this past week so I'm having to use a fucking Chromebook which I hate using, so I will be brief - happy anniversary to the best blog in the blog-o-sphere!
Seriously, I can't thank you enough for turning me on to so much great music... though my wallet fails to send you those same sentiments.
Randy

Thanks for the dedication... and recommendations! All the way from OZland of the kangaroos.
Hey Sal.
I hope you know how much I (and I believe many others) appreciate everything you do for us here at Burning Wood.
Well done and Thank You!
Thanks for keeping up the blog through thick and thin over the years. Amusing, genuine, frustrating, always intelligent & caring about the music. Who knows where the time goes? Indeed, as Yes sang on Drama, Tempus Fugit. Cheers!
Great work, Sal. Always interesting. I wish I had more time to delve in and contribute. All power to you, man.
