Poison Love- Buddy Miller
I once saw Buddy Miller in concert and he introduced this song as "one by my favorite recording artists, Johnnie & Jack." It's been a favorite ever since, by anyone who covers it. Here is Buddy's version.

Blue Sofa- The Plugz
Have I mentioned how much I love The Plugz? Of course, I have.

Big Tears- Elvis Costello
E.C. has had more amazing b-sides than most artists have hits in their entire career. This one, featuring Mick Jones of The Clash on guitar, backed "Pump It Up" and it's one of my favorites.

Postcard- The Babys
The final Babys album "On The Edge" is as good as any of their records. I played this record to death in 1980 and pulled it off the shelf for the first time in ages. It still sounded great.

Telegram Tuesday- Blossom Toes
The super-rare psych classic "We Are Ever So Clean" just got a nice remaster and reissue on vinyl. If you dig this track, I highly suggest giving the Blossom Toes some more time. At least listen to their 1967 debut.

Although The Sun Is Shining- Fleetwood Mac
I couldn't help notice the similarities between this song from 1969 and the Blossom Toes track I just mentioned from 1967.

Mercy- The Collins Kids
The 2008 Ponderosa Stomp at the House Of Blues in New Orleans remains one of the greatest nights of live music I have ever witnessed. Look at this lineup: Dr. John, Ronnie Spector, Barbara Lynn, Mary Weiss, Roy Head, William Bell, Betty Harris, Dale Hawkins, Sonny Burgess, Barrence Whitfield, Tami Lynn, Travis Wammack, Warren Storm and truly, the last act I thought I would ever get to see perform live, The Collins Kids. No longer kids, they, along with everyone that night, kicked some real rock and soul ass. It was an all-nighter and somewhere I have pictures of the entire night. Sadly, I have been looking for those photos since 2018, the year Lorrie Collins passed away, and have yet to find them. (I'm thinking they crashed along with my last computer.) The guitar on this track is something else.

Awesome. I've always wanted to visit the Ponderosa Stomp, but so far have only been to JazzFest. I saw William Bell here in Atlanta 10 years ago and it's one of my top 10 shows ever.

The first version of "Poison Love" I ever heard, and still my favorite, is Doug Sahm's:

The mere mention of Mick Jones compels me to post a link to Dropkick Murphys' "Mick Jones Nicked My Pudding," a song that's hard to get out of your head once it's in there:

The first version of Poison Love I heard was on the self-titled T-Bone Burnett album, which I love. It fits in so well on one of my favorite albums from the 80s.

Crikey! Blossom Toes? That takes me back (wish somebody would - Ed) and you juxtapose it with a great track from Then Play On which I haven't heard in an age. All is good. Thanks for keeping the zip up. Cheers!

Big Tears has always given me the chills.

“Who’s been taken in?”

Too many.
