The Rascals aren't that well known here in the UK, but I saw him touring with Little Steven in the early 80's, still one of my all time favourite gigs, and Men Without Women is still one of my favourite albums. Sad news. RIP.
When I was 15, I began to take drum lessons with the hope of playing in a band. In my basement, I set up my kit with the record player and continually drummed along to the Collection and Groovin' records (and Good Lovin'). Drove my parents crazy. Dino was my role model.
Ten years ago, his drumming was still dynamic and powerful during the Once Upon a Dream concert in Port Chester, NY. For me, he made rock n' roll exciting. He made music exciting.
His playing was part of my DNA. Will raise a glass to Dino this evening. R.I.P.
The first concert I ever went to was The Rascals at Carnegie Hall and I remember being mesmerized by Dino Danelli behind the drums. Not only what he was playing but how he was playing. Unbelievable energy and was almost like the front man in his movement. I've never forgotten that.

Years ago, you included "What Is the Reason" in one of your Weekend Mixes. I owned the song on the double CD Rhino comp (and have since bought the first 6 studio albums on CD) but gave it another listen and added the mp3 to my iPhone. When driving my guitarist kid and her then band's drummer around town, it came on in rotation and Dino's drumming elicited a "Whoa!" from said drummer. Dino was truly amazing. R.I.P.
Hi Sal, just checked into your blog because I heard that Kim Simmonds died on Tuesday, so I've been listening to Savoy Brown all evening. And now I'm reading about Dino...man, I love The Rascals, have them in the regular rotation. Sad to hear, I hope the music lives forever.

The Rascals -- another band you helped me get into, Sal. Got to see The Rascals circa Once Upon A Dream revival and they were great.
