Seven Years Gone

Between what would have been his 76th birthday this past Sunday and today, the 7th anniversary of his death, social media has mostly been a David Bowie free for all, with photographers showing their portraits of the man, musicians performing covers, and fans both ranking his albums or just listening to his music and saying so.

I had a little bit of a listening binge myself and I have a few more on deck for today.

I did want to share a few things I really enjoyed, including that meme up top, which I am sure you have seen at some point. It's really true, isn't it?

I follow an artist on Instagram, stuff_by_mark, who mostly draws rock stars as toons. I love what he did with the various guises of Bowie as Peanuts characters. He also does some truly creative pieces like making vintage movie posters out of either album or song titles. A lot of his work is available for purchase as prints or on t-shirts. Check out what's for sale, if you can. I've purchased a number of shirts, including the Bad Brains as a comic book cover, as well as Sparks, the Small Faces and The Kinks as Saturday Morning Cartoon characters. Here's an example.

Finally, check out guitarist Didi Wray and her excellent cover of a very early Bowie tune, "Love You Till Tuesday." I love both the choice and the arrangement.

At the risk of misplaced postin', I just wanted to share with y'all my Spotify playlist of Best Of 2022 to my ears.

I was going to post it on Sal's Best Of post recently, but it's too far down.

So here ya go - check it out, I think all will dig at least SOME of this!

For what it’s worth, I’m agnostic on Bowie. But I will stipulate that the Young Americans tour show I caught at Radio City back in the day — with Luther Vandross dancing inside the top of a grand piano —;was the most cringe inducing thing I’ve ever endured from a purportedly major artist.
