My boys Galactic have quietly released a streaming only E.P. titled "Tchompitoulas," featuring six songs that combine their special brand of New Orleans funk while highlighting a few of their favorite new rappers and singers, including Angelika "Jelly" Joseph, Glen David Andrews and Afro-Cuban superstar Cimafunk. As usual, the one and only Stanton Moore anchors it all like few drummers can. For those like me who prefer their copies hard, a vinyl release is coming and will be an add-on to Tipitina's Record Club selection in April.
Galactic also begins a week long run at NYC's legendary Blue Note Jazz Club, with different special guests each night, including Nicholas Payton, Robert Randolph and James Carter.
Not a bad way to get the blood flowing on a cold, gray, rainy, miserable Monday.
