This Is No Mere Baba

Behold, two men approaching 80, the son of rock royalty doing a very fine Keith Moon on drums and a brilliant soloist taking a rock classic to new heights.

Yes, it's The Two and yes, they have yet another live album, "The Who- Live At Wembley" due on April 4th. I saw this orchestra tour twice at Madison Square Garden, in 2017 and 2019, I believe. I said it then, I'll say it again. The Who continue to bring it live.  They may need a few dozen more people on stage with them, but so what. Just watch Pete, Rog and Zak. That's what counts.

I was at this show! It was fantastic. Eddie Vedder opened for them and joined on Love Reign Over Me.

Great, great clip. Pete may not be able to slide across the stage on his knees but his genius still shines through. Roger is in top form and Zach is the perfect fit. The vibrancy they're showing gives me hope, as I head into that stage of life, that I dont have to go gentle into that good night.

Excellent! I sure do love my Who. They're a band I listen to way more now than in their heyday, and it really resonates with me.

And these songs live and breathe. My favorite version of Baba O'Reilly isn't from back in the day, it's actually from the NYC 9/11 Concert where they played it ... the song just took on even more meaning for me then, just like when Elton played Mona Lisa And Mad Hatters. And the Stones with Salt Of The Earth. And Paul McCartney with I'm Down. (all from that 2001 show)

These songs live, and take on new lives, decades after being written.

I saw The Who with Orchestra a year or two ago and enjoyed it very much. Seems like there was a long period where they kept touring and people got kind of down on them, criticizing them of an ongoing cash-grab. It's nice to see a broader appreciation of them and who (pun intended) they are now.

wow....who'd a thought a full orchestra could add such depth, melody and power to one of the ultimate stadium anthems'....superb. Roger sounds great, too.

So much power. Daltrey continues to amaze with his vocals. I was lucky to see this show twice too. The second time a friend of mine's brother was playing drums with the orchestra, so that was pretty cool. As close as I'll ever get to the Who, I think.

Meanwhile, I saw this clip on Twitter today. Not so great visually, but the performance is something else. And they were only approaching 60 here. :)

Saw them a few months ago at the Hollywood Bowl. Just a fantastic show. The power of the orchestra backing those songs was just unreal. The joy of the performance from all involved was palatable. It was a blessing to have been at that show.

I’ve said it before, but Zack Starkey saved that band. It was seeing the concert for first responders from 9/11 that convinced me.

@Sean Clinchy

"Zak Starkey saved that band."

100 percent.

You don't get enough (or any) kudos for the titles of your posts.

Brilliant.

An outstanding and exciting demonstration of how to bring band and orchesta instruments into the 21st century. I'm going to show this to my students.

The Who still are a great live band. Saw them 4 times, but never with Keith. It's fun to see Pete has switched to a blue jumpsuit, Roger's voice is still good, and they've got someone fiddling about. Will have to track down the whole show.

Ditto on all the above, but especially the enjoyment of the post title!

It's all about Roger still be able to shout "THEY'RE ALL WASTED!" at the end for me.
