Run Run Run

I had not heard of McKinley Dixon before last night. He is a hip-hop artist from Virginia and has a new album due in June or July. I know this because I saw it on Brooklyn Vegan. I like to scroll through BV's headlines occasionally, just for laughs. I thought the headline of this article was particularly droll.

"GOVERNOR'S BALL CO-FOUNDERS DISCUSS THEIR FAVORITE MEMORIES FROM EVERY YEAR OF THE FESTIVAL."

Oh boy! Drop the baby, Agnes, and get over here with your reading glasses!!

U.K. BAND SNAPPED ANKLES RELEASE EP OF BLURT COVERS

ELISAPIE RELEASE "UUMMATI ATTANARSIMAT," AN INUKTITUT COVER OF BLONDIE'S "HEART OF GLASS."

"NEXT WEEK, SAL FROM BURNING WOOD TAKES YOU SHOPPING FOR Q-TIPS."

Never do I feel more like a schmuck than when I read Brooklyn Vegan, so when there is one thing that I do understand, I feel like Jed Clampett striking oil.

I was hoping the new McKinley Dixon single, "Run, Run, Run" was a cover of The Who song, because schmucks like me love cover versions. But instead, it's an incredibly hook-filled track that juxtaposes the horrors of gun violence over a wonderfully upbeat backing track. It's the first rap track I've loved in years.

Run Run Run's got everything that many rap songs don't: melody, harmony, and humility. I skip most of the genre because of the songs are too often tuneless, angry, and repetitive.

As for Brooklyn Vegan, I visited once and that was enough.

I like it! I like anything with mop dancing! Good messaging too…

Exposure. This is another reason to love BW. This is a song I likely would not be exposed to or seek out, but I'm really happy that Sal presented it here on his blog. I really dig it, great vibe and pertinent. Thank you for sharing.

"Schmucks like us, Baby we were born to (fill in the blank)."

Thanks for the song - I really got into it! Listened several times!
