Captain Senor Mouse- Return To Forever
Al Di Meola recently posted a clip of his band playing this Chick Corea classic. It can be found on his 1978 solo record, "Casino," which was the first and only time I saw Di Meola in concert, on the "Casino" tour. This is the original version which featured not Di Meola, but Bill Connors on guitar. I rarely post or share jazz fusion, but I've been revisiting RTF and digging the hell out of it, so maybe you will, too.

Can You Get To That- Funkadelic
"Maggot Brain" has just been reissued for the 63rd time. I've always been on the fence regarding Parliament/Funkadelic. I love what I love and really don't like what I don't. (That could be a Funkadelic song.)

Big Kick, Plain Scrap- Nick Lowe

This wasn't a favorite when "Labour Of Lust" first came out. I really dig it now.

Tree Of Knowledge- The Pursuit Of Happiness

When was the last time you listened to "Love Junk?" If the answer is anything but "just the other day," give it a spin. It really is packed from top to bottom with amazing songs. One of the all time great power pop records, if you ask me.

Guess I'm Dumb- Glen Campbell

Originally written for the Beach Boys to record on "Today," but rejected, this Brian Wilson gem sounds a hell of a lot like what became the song "Pet Sounds." (At least it does to my ears.)

Shadowtime- Siouxsie & The Banshees

It took some time to find a reasonably priced vinyl copy of "Superstition" and I've been playing it a ton since snagging it. This reminds me of a dozen songs from the 80's. Here's hoping Siouxsie brings her tour to the U.S..

A Song For Europe- Roxy Music
This is 100% pure Roxy Music, not that dreamy "Avalon" crap.

I've somehow managed to miss getting Maggot Brain over the years, though I know how well it's liked by others. This song may motivate me to take care of that.

"that dreamy 'Avalon' crap" ha!ha! although, I must admit I like some of it...

Guess I'm Dumb - not as good as Wichita Lineman, but close.

Great mix!

Randy,
I think "Avalon" is a terrific Bryan Ferry solo album, but a lousy Roxy Music album.

I can't believe they passed on "Guess I'm Dumb"! One of the best songs he's ever written. Glen's version is wonderful.

Point well taken.

Not really sure what you mean. So, if the album was credited to 'Bryan Ferry' and not 'Roxy Music', then it wouldn't be crap?

@sjm,

"Avalon" doesn't sound like Roxy Music to me. It's sounds more like a Ferry solo album, when compared to the Roxy records that came before it. "Dreamy crap" in my original blurb was just meant to get a laugh. I don't think "Avalon" is crap, but yes, if it was billed as a Ferry solo album, it'd make more sense to my ears. "Ringo" from 1973 has all four Beatles on it with songs written by all four Beatles, but it ain't a very good Beatles album. It's a great Ringo solo album, though.
