Twilley Rocks

From 1982, here is Dwight Twilley and "Cryin' Over Me," from "Scuba Divers," an album I think is even better than his classic 1976 debut "Sincerely."

As of yesterday, this track would have been my 9th favorite on the album. "Scuba Divers" is full of power pop gems like "I'm Back Again," "I Think It's That Girl" and even in an inferior remix of the original single, the still brilliant "Somebody To Love." "Cryin' Over Me" is the all out rocker on the record and just maybe feels like the speed bump. But for reasons I will never understand, this track finally hit me. It only took 40 years.

thanks for the link, neal! no lie, i played Scuba Divers last nite. i go back to all the solo albums periodically trying to figure out why they don't move me like the TDTB albums. I figure it must be due to some differences in playing and singing that Seymour and Bill Pitcock IV added. Plus Twilley's use of reverb and his vocal style rarely change.

Once again, I have to ask — why did I not get the memo on this earlier?

I bought Twilley's first single I'm on Fire, bought the second single You're So Warm (still a fave), on the second album Looking for the Magic ranks really high on best of all time, I've heard Twilley's recordings of Beatle songs, enjoy Live from the Agora, was thrilled with Great Lost Twilley album. But I've never heard this, what an idiot. Makes you wonder what else is out there to discover. I noticed AMG gives it only 3 stars. Sometimes they really miss.
I always lump Twilley and Petty together because their debut albums came out the same year. Both of high quality as was their second album. Petty had a career much greater than Twilley's. Go figure, Petty just seemed to want it more, in retrospect.

Scuba Divers is very good, but I haven't played it much lately. Will rectify that. Sincerely and Twilley Don't Mind get regular spins. The recently issued on CD Wild Dogs (LP release in 1986) has drawn my attention lately and is growing on me. You can try the title cut here: https://youtu.be/qjFgs8CbMSU or find it on streaming sites if you use those.
