"Dead Flowers" was not included in Saturday night's Las Vegas set list. But the absolute nadir of the Jagger/Richard catalogue, the dreadful "You Got Me Rocking," was voted into the set by fans.
Really now. Were there no votes for "Soul Survivor?" Or "Live With Me?" Or "Sway?"

I agree that You Got Me Rocking isn't very good, but their nadir for me is 60% of Their Satanic Majesties Request, such as In Another Land, The Lantern, Gomper, etc.
The set list includes only 2 tracks from Hackney Diamonds, "Mess It Up" and my least favorite, Angry. Otherwise the set looks like fun.

Maybe fans just wanted to hear something, anything they hadn't heard a million times before. And yes, Satanic Majesties Request is indeed the nadir of their work, even if there is some real competition from their post-seventies oeuvre.

Actually, I like "Satantic Majesties" more than a number of Stones albums, including "Voodoo Lounge." And if they ever pulled out live versions of "Gomper" or "Lantern," I'd flip! But,"You Got Me Rocking" getting "voted" in, out of 60 years of unplayed Stones material is hard to accept.
It seems the Stones are ignoring most of the Seventies - nothing from Sticky Fingers, Goat’s Head Soup, It’s Only Rock ‘N’ Roll, or Black and Blue. Other than ‘It’s Only Rock ‘N’ Rock the show before, that theme seems consistent so far.
The encore has remained constant: ‘Sweet Sound of Heaven’ followed by ‘Satisfaction’

If I remember correctly; when Rolling Stone reviewed Voodoo Lounge, they said that You Got Me Rocking sounded like it could have been on Exile.

I was stunned to find two songs on it -- Too Tight and Don't Stop == that I couldn't immediately remember which Stones album they derived from.
I refuse to admit that anyone who knows more than ONE Stones song would vote for "You Got Me Rocking". This can't really be a real poll, can it? I'm gonna walk into the ocean.
It's a good song, but way down on my list of requests. I'd add a few more songs to the set too, but, I'm not an octogenarian.
I've been asking myself those two questions far too many times lately after scrolling through Facebook for a while......
A couple thoughts:
1) It's ludicrous we're even having this conversation. What were the chances these guys would have (mostly) made it here? I have to believe Mick feels You Got Me Rocking brings energy, or maybe he feels it connects with the "younger" fans (30 years old!!!!).
2) It never even crossed my mind that the fan vote was actually a legitimate vote. In Nashville, we're always good for Dead Flowers or Far Away Eyes, and in other cities, if there's any sort of tie in to the city, that's what they play.
For me personally, not playing anything off Sticky Fingers hurts my soul! If I had my druthers, it would be mostly rarities. I've always maintained Mick and Keith with two guitars, two stools and a harmonica would be amazing.

Swap out both Sing This All Togethers and In Another Land and add back "Child Of The Moon" and "We Love You" and I think "Satanic Majesties" is a damn good record. Certainly more interesting than most of their 90's output.

They counted all the votes for "If You Can't Rock Me" as "You Got Me Rockig". Kinda like whenever I would request my local rock station to play "She Was Hot", they'd play "She's So Cold."

I can't stand "You Got Me Rocking" either. Also, I was at that lackluster Vegas show. I give 'em credit for still being able to get up there at their age, regardless of the sloppy phone-in job. I miss Charlie though. A lot.
Assuming the fan-vote is legit, the choices that night were "All Down the Line," "Live with Me," "Sad Sad Sad" and "You Got Me Rocking." I voted for "Live With Me," to no avail. Oh well, at least the seats were great and were comped.
I like that rehearsal clip. I'd pay big bucks to see an intimate show like that. One where they're genuinely having fun.
I totally disagree with the view expressed here that feels "You Got Me Rocking" is better than Satanic Majesties. Guess you kinda had to be there but I played the fuck out of that album when it came out. Over the years I've had equivocal feelings about it, but at this time I look at it fondly.
Sal, I agree about your modifications to the LP. A few years back I made an alternate CD. I added some tracks and kept most of it except the long chunk of baloney in the middle of “See What Happens”. Kept the much-hated “In Another Land” cuz in 1967-1968 I dug the overuse of tremelo. I use “Sing This All Together" and a small portion “Sing This All Together (See What Happens)" as bookends for the album. Here’s the VR version:

Sort of a tangent, but Sal brought up Voodoo Lounge saying it was less interesting than Satanic. Undoubtedly. Satanic was probably the most adventuresome album of their career whether it works for the listener or not.
As much as I hate "You Got Me Rocking," and the wretched "Brand New Car," the rest of Voodoo Lounge doesn't bother me at all. IMHO "Out of Tears" is one of their finest ballads. "Blinded By Rainbows" ain't too shabby either."Baby Break It Down" is subtle, simple and brilliant. The Keith tunes are pretty good too. Voodoo Lounge is adventurous and varied with out-of-the-box stuff like "Sweethearts Together," "Suck On the Jugular," "The Moon Is Up" and "New Faces". I gave it many spins when it came out. It has a lot going for it, other than the two songs mentioned above. Still, I'd give Babylon the edge as far as 90's output goes.

Something about "Voodoo Lounge" bothers me. I love the opener, "Love Is Strong." But even the better songs, like a few you mention---"Out Of Tears" and "Baby Break It Down," specifically---feel like solo Jagger tracks, moreso than most of their 90's output. I agree "Bridges To Babylon" is a better record than it gets credit for. Again, like "Satanic," I think "Bridges" is interesting. Using...was it The Dust Brothers?...on "Might As Well Get Juiced" was genius. "Voodoo Lounge" is just too clean.

The three Dust Brothers tracks are the best ones on the Bridges album.
Another thing about Voodoo Lounge is that the Stones mainly played the least interesting tunes live. I Go Wild, Sparks Will Fly and the just plain rotten "You Got Me Rocking," come to mind.
On the tour they played the Rose Bowl on 1994-10-19 and 1994-10-21. I had fantastic seats both nights. One of the nights we were sitting between Robert Shapiro (O.J.'s attorney at the time) and Andy Garcia. The second night next to Richard Benjamin and Paula Prentiss. RHCP and Buddy Guy opened.
On the off night, the 20th, Buddy had a gig at the Hollywood House of Blues. The word was that the Stones were going to do a surprise set after Buddy was done. Me and my old man got tickets and a room at the Mondrian across the street. The guy I was with had his birthday on October 21 (which oddly is Simels B-day too). The plan was to see the Stones club gig and then ring in his birthday at the hotel. I knew some people at the House of Blues and they assured me it was definite. The club was a circus with every local news crew represented with broadcast trucks. It was on. When Buddy finished his set the club didn't turn on the lights and play exit music. The curtains were closed as they prepared for the next act - the Stones. The capacity crowd waited for over an hour, full of anticipation. Then the curtains opened and there was nothing there. The lights went on and they played the exit music. Fuck. For whatever reason, the Stones balked at the last minute. By this time my boyfriend was shitfaced. He passed out when we got to the hotel. Just as well, he wouldn't have been any good anyway. What a shitty night that was. Champagne on ice for one. No voodoo in my lounge. Memorable nonetheless.

I have a very similar Stones experience.
'81 tour, they were playing a stadium, arena and club show in each major city, with the club show often last minute under a pseudonym. The stadium shows had George Thorogood and I think Journey as openers. Day after the Stadium show, Thorogood is headlining a new venue in midtown called The Savoy, with Screaming Jay Hawkins opening a third band called The Swingers. A reliable source said The Swingers were the Stones, and of course Thorogood's show suddenly sells out. But I did get four tickets. We get there when the doors open and the first act is Screaming Jay an hour later. Now we are convinced the Stones are playing. Thorogood comes on around 10PM and that was a fucking endurance test. His set ends close to midnight and the lights come on but no one leaves. Bar stayed open for another hour. No Stones and no Swingers.
The song choices for the van vote for tomorrow's night's Stones show are: Wild Horses, Depending on You (my pick), Fool to Cry and Worried About You.
Hard to not pick "Wild Horses," which should always be in the set, but I would have picked "Depending On You," too.
