New From Chuck Prophet

I'm a fan of Chuck Prophet, though I can't say I was looking forward to his forthcoming cumbia album with the band Qiensave. The first single and title track "Wake The Dead" was a fine change of pace, but an entire album of cumbia rhythms might work for me if it was Los Lobos. It's not what I want from Mr. Prophet. The new single, "Red Sky Night," a co-write with Aaron Lee Tasjan and Kim Richey is a lovely piece of music, so maybe "Wake The Dead" will offer more than just a collection of Latin-tinged folk and dance music. I do love this track.

Another Chuck fan here. Really digging both tracks, too - it'll be interesting to hear how the rest of the album plays out.

I just listened to his Live In Paris yesterday. I have a friend who is a huge fan. His Jesus Was A Social Drinker is a hoot, among many great tunes. Fine writer, guitarist, singer, producer.

Longtime fan. Seeing him a couple of weekends from now at the Great American Music Hall. Hopefully a bunch of new stuff in the set. Of the two available trax I prefer Wake the Dead. Red Sky Night is gorgeous but really doesn't travel very far. And you can't dance to it :-) I don't find the prospect of a Latin tinged album off-putting at all. Hope it's excellent. Looking forward to the show.

Now back to savoring the virtues of the second Peanut Butter Conspiracy album.
