There is a new 17 CD boxed set celebrating The Bonzo Dog Band.
"Seven years in the making and put together with band’s full co-operation, ‘Still Barking’ includes: Remastered stereo versions of all of the band’s original albums, additional remastered versions ‘Gorilla’ and ‘The Doughnut in Granny’s Greenhouse’ in their original mono mixes, a newly compiled remastered CD of all the band’s singles, two discs of demos, rehearsals, and outtakes, a single disc of backing tracks, three discs of BBC Sessions and two live discs."
It's here, if you have $300 and absolutely need a hard copy.
It might be about 10 discs too many, but I imagine if you're a diehard, you'll want it all. I am not a diehard, but I do love a lot of this band's output. Their debut, "Gorilla" is pure bliss. It's musical and hilarious and completely original. "The Intro & The Outro" never fails to make me laugh.
The Bonzos have some big time fans, too. Andy Partridge, all four Beatles, and even my old Pilates teacher. If you're unfamiliar with the band, give these tracks a spin. My guess is you'll either fall head over heels or call me an idiot. I'm hoping for the former, but I'm used to the latter.

For all you impecunious Bonzo fans, EMI released in 1992 the Cornology 3 CD box set containing all five albums, single tracks and some outtakes which is good enough IMHO. This has to be still available somewhere as many may not wish to sell a kidney to acquire the new box set (which I understand also contains a 78 rpm vinyl !). Anyway, don't miss that amusing YT skit with all three surviving band members (Legs Larry Smith, Roger Ruskin Spear and Rodney Slater) discovering the new box set. Dada for now.
J from Europe.
The Count Basie Orchestra on triangle....
I love those guys, but I can’t imagine having the time to listen to 17 CDs of anything.
The cow solo on "Hello Mabel" is as good as dadaist musique concrete gets. I'm one of those who has a file folder with almost everything Bonzo in it. There are a few items in this new collection that were missing. Good to have it "all".
The world is a better place.
Can you introduce me to your old Pilates teachers?
Great stuff. Part of the soundtrack of my high school years. Vivian Stanshall is just the coolest name.
Idiot! But like, Iggy Pop idiot, which is cool. I have NEVER HEARD of them. I will hear them soon....
Wrestle poodles and win! Great band, very talented musician and very funny. 17 discs is a bit much though, so is the price. I'll be very happy with my albums.
