The Rumble

From the band's website:

The Rumble continues the legacy of Mardi Gras Indian funk, which was pioneered in part by Chief Joseph Boudreaux Jr.’s father Big Chief Monk Boudreaux with the Wild Magnolias. The younger Boudreaux is a Grammy nominated singer himself and a well respected leader of the Black Masking Indian community. Trumpeter Aurélien Barnes masks with the Northside Skull and Bone Gang, another hallmark black masking carnival group. The brass band culture of New Orleans is represented by Barnes, and especially by trombonist José Maize of the TBC Brass band, known for electrifying crowds at the city’s famous second line parades.

Now that you are caught up, get caught up in this record. "Stories From The Battlefield"

This record makes me happy and that's no easy task.

Ok, you've definitely got my attention! Thanks for the tip, will definitely be checking this out.

BTW, are you still in the Tip's Record Club? The last couple of releases didn't really set my hair on fire, but I still enjoy it overall.

Troy, I am still in the club and I agree with you regarding their recent choices.

If you haven’t seen it; you should check out the show “Treme” which is still available on HBO/MAX. Created by the same guy who did The Wire. It’s about NOLA after Katrina. It’s great

That was me who made the Treme comment

I loved Treme. Watched every episode.

It appears the three musicians named were also featured on Cha Wa’s My People album from 2021. Another record for which I’m eternally grateful to you for the introduction (there’s so many!). Thanks for all you do, sir :)

Of course, the next release is supposed to be the Wild Tchoupitoulas with the Nevilles from 1977. I'm practically giddy at the thought of that.

Really? I hadn't checked! That's a keeper!

The Rumble are basically a spin off from Cha Wa. Cha Wa is still around, but not as active as they were in the past.

Holy Crap! If this rhythm section got any funkier, I’d toss my drum kit out the window and sell hot dogs on the street! Yikes!

Sal Nunziato said...

@Whattawino, I beat ya to both.
