(This was never a favorite oldie of mine until I heard Robert Plant & Alison Krauss cover it. Now I love them both.)

(Thanks to the New Orleans Jazz Fest and Dr. Ike's Ponderosa Stomps, I got to see Barbara Lynn live at least five or six years in a row. She killed it every time. This is from the "Crazy Cajun Recordings" which I highly recommend.)

(And speaking of "never a favorite," the first time I heard this song was David Lindley's cover, and boy did it get on my nerves. That whiny lead vocal, the Devo meets George Thorogood arrangement, and the fact that WNEW-FM played it ten times a day did not help. Years later, I heard the original version on a CD, and it made me hate Lindley's soulless version even more. K.C. Douglas is sublime here. The good news is, I've come around to those El Rayo-X records, though still not a fan of their "Mercury Blues.)

strangely, yet synchronistically, (there is no coincidence!)...i just took a deep dive on kc douglas' mercury tune earlier this week!!!..a steve miller version predated el rayo-x's epic version...however, even kc himself had a version which predated this '52 "mercury blues" record!..his 1948 "mercury boogie"..the original!!

Did you see the thoughtful obituary for your friend Sal Maida in MOJO magazine last month? I was glad to see him in there - and to see the John Sally Ride mentioned!
