In A Word, Help

In just three days, this cranky old blog will be 17 years old. That's four years longer than my shop lasted. Also celebrating a birthday is my membership to the site that hosts all of the zip files.

I am sorry to say that I will not be renewing the membership. I can't afford it.

In 17 years, Burning Wood has made a total of...wait...let me do the math.

6+4 = 10 x 12 minus 17, carry the...uh...nothing. Burning Wood has made a total of nothing.

Yay!

So, to be frank, I can't afford to do it without help.

I know a few of you out there might find this offputting. Why pay for what you already get for free?

Hell, there is an endless supply of blogs just a few keystrokes away where you can download brand new releases for FREE, and never have to pay for a record or CD again?

(Another yay for me.)

You may also be thinking, what the hell is up with this modern day Oliver Twist asking for donations every other year?

I apologize for sticking my hand out. I don't enjoy, it, trust me. I might as well write for free, too.
Oh wait...

There are plenty of sites who offer their hosting and storage services for free, but along with that free service comes more complications: time consuming downloads with passwords and wait times, limits, less space for me (and you), and more annoying pop-ups for massage therapy and Zoloft. By paying a legitimate company for space, your tunes, including the CD length "Weekend Mixes" and "Songs Of The Week" are one click away and they remain available all the time. The links don't die. By not renewing, hundreds of zip files that are at your disposal will be gone. Dead.

So it is with great humility that I ask this, if you'd like all the music that is posted- the "Weekend Mixes," the occasional rare live concerts, unreleased tracks by your favorite artists, old rare vinyl rips, etc.--to continue, free of charge with no loop holes (except this one loop hole every year about this time), and you feel like showing your appreciation, click on the Burning Wood Fund Donation button and show your support.

The donation button, by the way, is right below the Song Of The Day.

17 years of this and I am still not comfortable pitching for donations. But after to talking to some friends about this, they made me feel a little better about asking.

NO amount is too small, not even nothing, if that's how you feel. Otherwise, the zips will go dark, and I'll just have to replace the Weekend Mixes and Songs Of The Week zips on Fridays and Sundays with more reggae and Todd Rundgren.

Thank you again for all your support.

And as an immediate thank you, here is a surprise 17th Anniversary mix that I think will appeal to everyone.

Click if you dare.

Oh, and how about something really special?

Hi Sal,
It is a pity and I am sorry to hear that. A Paypal donation was just done - not a lot, but everything helps. "Courage" as they say in my neck of the woods.

I don't download all that frequently as there's so much music to listen to I can barely keep up, but I did download yesterday, and that NOLA set is great! I also donated (and not for the first time), and you never donate folks need to pony up.

Sal you are one decent voice in a sea of mediocrity. Thanks.

As I've mentioned before, a lot of blogs I know have annual or half-yearly fundraisers so don't fret about it. For me, where else am I going to get intelligent and sometimes amusing insights into life and music, articulate rants and tantrums, and even the occasional good bit of music. Plus it was the threat of even more reggae and Rundgren that prompted me to stick my hand in my pocket. Cheers!

Just donated.

To all who haven't donated, hopefully we can all give at least a few bills, if nothing more.

And if you really enjoy the blog - as so many of us do - try to give a little more if you can!
