I always thought it was adorably dorky how they referenced Lord of the Rings (long before it was cool), though really there are NO pretty girls in Mordor. (And Gollum isn't evil; he's cursed! But that's really nitpicky.)
Those are some dumb comments, except for the Ten Years After comment. That one's a valid opinion (and one I share). And today's cover is from my favorite Rickie Lee Jones record, the 10" Girl At Her Volcano, with the best ever version of Under The Boardwalk. Crank that baby (the whole record) up on a good stereo system, and the term audiophile won't seem so silly after all.
You're right. It is a valid opinion in the context of "I'd rather listen to...than..." In the context of dissing Zeppelin, it reads as if LZ were unable to play the blues, or at least that is how I remember the conversation.

As much as Robert Planet was often Zep's weak link (in 2 words: lyrics, vocals), I have to admit that his solo career is/was pretty awesome. Very few wrong steps...
On another note, thanks for todays cover song and for reminding me how beautiful "Rainbow Sleeves" by Rickie Lee Jones is. Just a phenomenal song, performance and recording.

And what differences on Led Zeppelin??!! Who disses them? I mean, I'm not remotely a rabid fan but they're iconic and great. It's indisputable.

Robert has spent the past couple of decades exploring his voice, rather than trying to stretch it, and even on sub-par material, he is mesemerising.
