(Besides, I expect my receptivity to new music on Friday will have more to do with the outcome of tonight's basketball game... which starts in 3 minutes!)

Part of what's great about this blog is getting exposed to music we don't hear elsewhere. It plays the part that radio used to when I was a kid.
I love jazz, but don't listen to as much as I should, so jazz mixes would be great. I'm not a metal fan, but go ahead, lay it on me, maybe I'll learn something.
I LOVE all types of music and was exposed to all styles since I was in nursery school.We were taught to sing SILENT NIGHT in JAPANESE and can't believe I still remember it.A little different, huh? My whole life I remember JAZZ being a highly influential style, whether T.V.,MOVIES, THEATRE,DANCE Etc. But I don't know too many people who are JAZZ fans compared to ROCK,R&B,Country,Etc I rarely hear people talk about BIG BAND which was huge when I was growing up,where is that? Last friday night I attended THE MAX WEINBERG BIG BAND. A big band it was. I Don't know about others, but I enjoyed this shoe so very much,and thought it was a pleasant change from ROCK. They performed BIG BAND,SWING,BLUES etc. Tthey performed all above styles in one show. They performed works from SINATRA, COUNT BASIE,GEGE CRUPA and more. He even had a little fun with HELP,KITTY'S BACK and my fave of the night the theme from M SQUAD(if youare old enough to remember.) MAX did a great job as a welcoming host,very personable. He ended the show with I WANT CANDY, and as they say, "THEY ALMOST BLEW THE ROOF OFF THE JOINT".
I'm all for it. My jazz tastes are fairly mainstream old-timey, but I'm open to anything. Any hard rock you like is stuff I'm likely to enjoy, so more power to you. I also think a "guilty pleasures" mix would be lots of fun just to see the reactions ("You really like WHAAAT?").
You know Jeff, I've toyed with the "Guilty Pleasures" mix for some time now. But whenever I start compiling, I find myself defending each song in my head to the point where it's not really so much my guilty pleasure, but what I might think is someone else's. Like, "I really and truly think (insert song) is a great tune."
I'm on board. Do whatcha like.

I have pretty narrow tastes in jazz, I say go for it, maybe I'll learn something. After all, it's not dead, it just smells funny.

What about a mix of Rolling Stone cover songs by jazz artists. I can think of maybe none offhand . . .
