Thank you sir for all the kind and sweet words for Prince. And the w0nDerFul shares. When I feel sad, I just play his music and I can't help but feel happy, grateful and of course fUnKy. His name is Prince, the one and only.
I was at this show last night. Maybe because the TM gods smiled on me for once and had me in Section 4, but last night's show was outstanding! Much better than the MSG show I saw in Jan when most of the people around me were more interested in chatting over songs and checking their cell phones.
Not the case last night. The audience was locked in from the start (and yes the Purple Rain cover was inspired) and for the entire 3 hours/40 minutes gave as much back to the band as they gave us.
I have a lot of shows coming up in the next couple of months (Tedeschi Trucks, Neil Young, Coldplay, The Cure, Stone Roses, Peter Gabriel (and um Sting), Noel Gallagher)but it will be hard to top last night's performance.
People have asked me if Prince was really that big of a deal. The words "Bruce Springsteen opens show with Purple Rain" say it all. And the video evidence nails it shut. Thanks, Sal.
"The most over-qualified second guitar in rock..." It's been that kind of year and the band has done a lot of tributes. However, this one was as serious and heartfelt as any I have seen.
Lately, every time I hear "Purple Rain", the more it sounds like Bowie's "Rock N Roll With Me". I'm not suggesting any connection, I'm sure it's just the tempo and chords.
For anyone interested, here's the upgraded audio (soundboard) and multi-cam version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_iQgCzvl6g

Nils left it all out there on that one. Beautiful tribute to a Genius.
I lack the words to describe how great that is.
Although I really thought, it being Bruce, he'd cover Little Red Corvette.
Hello all...no, please remain seated,
That is righteous and proper.
