Conversation Piece- David Bowie
This is Bowie's re-record of his late 60's single. It was part of the sessions for the aborted "Toy" album, but then when bootlegs were released of what "Toy" was imagined to be, it was not part of the tracklist. It ended up as a bonus track on the CDs of "Heathen."

Big Time- Ian Hunter & Mick Ronson
The 80's reunion of Hunter and Ronson has many great tunes, all ruined by terrible 80's production. Still, I dig much of it, including this track.

Even Here We Are- Paul Westerberg
I love Westerberg's first solo record "14 Songs" as much and occasionally more than any Replacements record. This is a brief beauty.

Gasoline & Matches- Buddy & Julie Miller
From their terrific "Written In Chalk" LP.

Poor Boy Got To Move- The Stokes
The Stokes were a New Orleans vocal group led by lead singer Allen Toussaint.

Bring It On To Me- Eddie Floyd
I've been on a Booker T. & The MGs binge, which led me to some other Stax faves, like Eddie Floyd's excellent arrangement of this Sam Cooke hit.

What The World Needs Now- Burt Bacharach & The Posies
This is from the Austin Powers soundtrack.

Last weekend I took an unexpected train trip. I thought I was getting a car ride back from Asbury Park, but things took a very wrong turn and I ended up on New Jersey Transit. What should have been a 120 minute ride from door to door, turned into 215 minutes. Late trains, missed connections, slow trains, no trains, shuttle buses and long walks. All the while I had the iPod going, helping me get through the trip, and all of the songs in this week's mix played during those hours. That's the boring backstory this week.

Any mix that includes NJ Transit is a good one in my book.

Thanks for another fine SOTW zip, the cherry on top for me being the Hunter-Ronson track. Can you have a cherry on top of a zip? Oh well. Plus emoted vicariously as I read about your travel travails, but at least the week's tunes popped up to keep you company. Cheers!

Love Buddy and Julie. Written in Chalk is a terrific album. I need to go back and spend some time with it again .
