Sugar Coated Love- Lazy Lester
Picked up an original copy of this beauty on the Excello label last week. Had to share it.

O Sole Mio- Wingy Manone
I heard this on New Orleans radio, on my very first trip there 20 years ago. Only in New Orleans. And his name is Wingy.

Sitting Still- Matthew Sweet & Susanna Hoffs
I am not a fan of the early R.E.M. records, or of the band in general. I came in at "Life's Rich Pageant," which I love, but got right off the bus until "Out Of Time." But I do like the way Sid 'n' Susie cover this tune.

Bad Girl- Lee Moses
Light In The Attic just released "How Much Longer Must I Wait," a singles and rarities collection by Lee Moses. I recommend it highly. This track is probably Lee Moses most famous. What a performance!

Dr. Lester- The Maytals
I watched Ronnie Wood play this on his cable/radio show and he almost came out of skin with joy. Now, when I hear it, I will always see Ronnie dancing and singing along.

Can't Say No- Jimmie Vaughan
Courtesy of the iPod shuffle.

Small Town Talk- Bobby Charles
As I continue to rebuild the library after the computer crash, I am finding things I forgot I had, like an expanded version of Bobby Charles classic on Bearsville. This is from that album proper.

Wingy got the nickname after he lost an arm in a streetcar accident. They used his version of "How Long Blues" in the closing credits of the late, oft lamented in NO, tv show, "Frank's Place."

Blimey O'Reilly! All new to me. My education continues. Cheers!

Thanks Sal! How about a sneaky Songs of The Week containing one track each from your favorite albums of 2019, so far. I know, it hasn't been a banner year for you yet, but it would still be nice to know what albums have continued to hold your attention. There's just so MUCH damn music that those roundups are more useful than ever. All Billboard gave me was 95% hip hop and pop and I need more stuff to check out!

Amen on Lee Moses. My intro was his cover of California Dreaming, but Bad Girl, and much of the rest of 'Time & Place', smoke. Bad Girl's building intensity reminds me of the great Irma Thomas's various versions (I can't decide if I love the original or her stretched-out re-do in the 70s) of Wish Someone Would Care.
