Success Story- The Who
Social media discussion about The Who By Numbers determined it's the "great adult Who record." If "Squeeze Box" bothers you so much, remember there are 9 other songs on the record, including this John Entwistle track. My third favorite Who album.

Some Weird Sin- Iggy Pop
Iggy, Bowie, Soupy Sales kids. And that's what it sounds like.

I Don't Wanna Know- Peter Wolf
70's era Stones nailed by late career Peter Wolf.

All Apologies- Herbie Hancock
Jazz legend takes on Kurt Cobain. Still waiting for a nice US vinyl edition of "The New Standard" from which this track originates. All of the takes on modern pop hits and rock hits are pretty damn good.

New- Paul McCartney
Played this to death when it came out, I had to give it a rest. Sounds better than ever after the lay off.

Shake-Pintura Fresca
First heard this at a friend's birthday party about 7 years ago. Saw that friend this week and this track came up in conversation. Infectious? I say yes.

Sea & Sand- Pete Townshend
My absolute fave track on "Quadrophenia," here is the demo by its author.

I saw The Who in London last week. It was a great show! After singing Imagine a Man off of By Numbers, Roger announced it was his favorite Who album.

Kevin,
I imagine it's Rog's fave because he put it altogether. Pete gave him all the demos and said, "You do it. Pick and choose and sequence." I don't even mind Squeeze Box. I think it's fantastic.

Sal - one of the opening acts for The Who in London was The Kaiser Chiefs. Frankly was not familiar with them at all but they were terrific! Am now a big fan.

Kevin,
How did you miss the Kaisers debut, "Employment?" That thing was on non-stop at NYCD. Great band and a killer debut! Glad you dug them.

The Kaiser Chiefs are great in concert and on disc. That debut is excellent, the follow-up "Yours Truly Angry Mob" just as good and my favorite is "Education Education Education and War." That's three excellent albums out of six. And their latest comes out July 26!

Who By Numbers should have been the blueprint for the Who's second life--meaningful songs about growing up and growing older. Townshend did that so well up through Who By Numbers, then it kind of went away.

Sal's favorite Who albums:
1. The Who Sell Out
2. ?
3. Who By Numbers

Live At Leeds is in a league all its own...because, well...it's live. And the BEST live album ever.

4. The Who Sell Out

Well, if we are counting compilations, then Meaty Beaty Big & Bouncy would be at #2.

Yeah, it's cheating slightly. But I figured Odds & Sods was all unreleased stuff.

Meaty Beaty is one of the best singles compilations. I rank it up there with Squeeze 45s and Under.
