Neil Innes, 1944-2019

Monty Python, The Bonzo Dog Band, Grimms and The Rutles. That is a lot of brilliance right there.

Rest In Peace, Neil.

I'm about halfway through Eric Idle's book and he has some really recollections about The Rutles and Neil's contributions. What a crazy time that was, and they delivered some brilliant stuff there...RIP Mr. Innes.

The Rutles album was #47 on my list of my "other 100". It is an album that has lasted much longer than a lunchtime.

A good Parody -- is easy because you just take the original and change the words.

Pastiche -- is a lot harder. There are hundreds of "Beatlesque" bands out there. There is only one album that sounds like an alternate version of "1" by the Beatles and that's the Rutles album.

Sad news of the passing of a very funny & clever chap. Fondly remembered from TV's "Do Not Adjust Your Set" onwards. "How Sweet To Be An Idiot" indeed.

Thanks for your words on Innes. I'm just now in the midst of that lengthy Monty Python documentary "Almost the Truth"--it's the first time i truly got just how inspirational the Bonzos were to the Pythons. As for the Rutles, hell, there's never, ever been as smart a comedic take on rock (all respect to the Tap).

Another great talent gone, unfortunately. I always liked the Bonzos, and who didn't like The Rutles? Here's Neil playing The World's Worst Guitar Solo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hcZ4s9cvpw
