From 1967, please fall in and try to get out of Lonnie Smith on organ, Melvin Lastie on cornet, Leo Morris on drums, George Benson on guitar and leader Lou Donaldson on alto, doing some serious justice to one chord on Freddie McCoy's "One Cylinder."
I always wondered why this album was called "Alligator Bogaloo" and not "Alligator Boogaloo." A typo in the Blue Note art department? Or, an in joke among the players, as they "BOG-gle" the mind with such serious grooves. I know one thing, "One Cylinder" is one chord and these cats make the best of it.

Love that album; have had it on vinyl for years.
I love that period when bop became modal. reminds me of Julius Hemphill's "Dogon A.D." Maybe Hemphill just deconstructed the beat further?
