Two For Thursday
I decided to give this another go. I know many, like myself, love Spotify. But, there are also those who not only refuse to embrace it, but flat out despise the practice, specifically the artists who receive a check for $1.66 after their song achieves 11 billion streams. I'd like to think that there are more people like myself who use Spotify for the convenience, but will also drop some coin on an album they truly love.
That's my Spotify speech.
I've been creating playlists since I first joined up. Some were made for others by request. Others, for my own listening pleasure. It is a lot easier than burning a disc, uploading and retagging, then uploading again onto the site that hosts all the files, only to find very few downloading, either because they have or know most of the songs in the playlists, or because they live through their iPhones and have no hard drive space. Well, here are two recent playlists you might enjoy. The first is the third volume of "Playing Hooky" and the second is an epic, that could just as well have been three separate mixes called "Now You Has Jazz."
You can follow me on Spotify and listen to everything I've put together. There are playlists devoted to one artist like Pete Townshend or Matthew Sweet, Nine Inch Nails or The Darkness. There are playlists that offer deeper cuts of bands like Queen ("Animal Crackers",) or Hall & Oates ("Say No Hits.") One playlist called "Singles"where I've tried to create better single LPs from classic doubles. Themed playlists and more. Or, just keep your eyes peeled here, and I will post new playlists and old favorites from time to time.
Let's see how this goes over.
Enjoy the music.

I really must pay more attention to / learn how to use Spotify.
Sometimes I'll listen to a song if I can't find it on YouTube, and I check the album release tab. On reading this morning's post I figured I needed to look at your playlist. Went to Spotify, typed in your name, and damned if I hadn't signed on as a follower even though I have no idea what that means :-) . There must be a "Notify" button I've missed.
Now I'll pay more attention!
unfortunately, my workplace (my connection to the internet) blocks Spotify. now if this was 7 years ago we could share Mixwit playlists...
I think this is a great decision. Hopefully it makes creating playlists easier and less expensive for you. I've been turning some of your playlists into Spotify playlists already and usually most if not all the songs you use are available. I follow you on Spotify but I've never followed a playlist -- I just play it. Do you encourage people to follow playlists too? Does that help you in some way? Happy Thursday!
@Michael Giltz
Funny you mention "following a playlist." I was just thinking about what that means exactly. Do I follow someone's "Beatles" playlist to see if they add songs or remove songs? Not quite sure of the point of following a playlist. I like following some friends just so I can see what they are listening to, especially if they put something fun together.
I am a big fan of Spotify; they seem to have just about everything I look for, ease of use and searching for playlists of others in a particular genre is great way to discover music. I am especially drawn to the some of the playlists of late 60's/early 70's British music. Adding your playlists will be a welcomed addition.
I really dig "Deep Lizzy"
Good work Sal.
Fabio Danieli, VE Italy.
Thanks for sharing these, Sal. And I'm now an official follower. I find about 80% of my listening these days is done on Spotify. It helps that I can still stream it at work.I usually only follow people or artists, but there are a few playlists I follow only so I know where I can find them easily (Nick Lowe has a couple of fun ones).
Have you thought about having a forum where some of us BW-ers can share our playlists with your readers?
Bill,
That's a great idea. I think I'll make it a post next week, suggesting your idea. Then, anyone who wants to share can send me the embed code and I'll post one a week.
I'm really not a Spotifier, or any other streaming service. Anachronistic that way... I still listen to my iPod all day. I am a fan of the downloadable songs - but that's me personally. Either way you go - thanks for all you do, it rocks.
That is excellent. Many thanks for all the hard work!
I'm with Walk in the Woods in regards to iPod/downloads but I think the sharing of Spotify playlists for others is a wonderful way to spread the gospel of music.

I'm in the anti camp because of the way it screws artists. I don't subscribe. That's partly because the internet here parties like it's 1999 and on phones, we are lucky if we get 1G.
I also don't have fun with following spotify songs, I lose track. Same used to apply with my ipod, which I enjoyed compiling my own mixes on. These were mainly archive as I get so much new in in everyday life.
Spotify has its place. It's just not for me. Ditto Apple Music.
I was never a fan because of their business practices. I share a computer at work, and the other person has an account and leaves it open, so I use it occasionally. It's been working fine, and I'll be checking out your playlists. Who knows, I might sign up and post a few of my own. I doubt that their royalty payments would ever increase, so...
'Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most' is one of my favorite jazz standards. Also love Torkanowsky's cover of it with Lucia Micarelli on violin.
