I Feel For You (Acoustic Demo)- Prince
This gem was a Prince fan club pre-order back in October and was finally released on January 24th. This kid is pretty good!

One Way Street- Lou Ann Barton
All the recent news about Aerosmith and their drummer Joey Kramer reminded me of how terrific they once were. I pulled out a show from Boston, 1973, when half of the band's set was covers and the other half was songs from their just released debut. The band was nothing like what they eventually became. This was a well-oiled bar band that pulled off both Yardbirds and James Brown covers as if they were their own. Anyway, why is there a Lou Ann Barton cover here instead of something from that Boston show? Because I love her Texas take of this track from Aerosmith's debut.

Let Them Talk- John Boutte
One of my favorite singers from New Orleans, and really from anywhere, this is from John's most recent release, "A Well Tempered Boutte" and it kills me.

Fools In Love- Joe Jackson
And speaking of debuts, there are few as solid and just about perfect as JJ's "Look Sharp."

Pumping On Your Stereo- Supergrass
A terrific two-lp anthology was just released titled "The Strange Ones" and it's solid through and through. Supergrass is definitely a singles band and this track is a fave from that set.

It Doesn't Matter- Billy Preston
It has come to be known that Billy Preston's backing band on the George Harrison produced tracks of "That's The Way God Planned It" featured Clapton on guitar, Keith Richards on bass and Ginger Baker on drums. That's some band! How do we know this exactly? Original copies of the record, both here and in the U.K., came with generic white inners, no inserts and NO credits on the back cover. Does anyone know at what point in time this was confirmed? It's one thing to find something than post it on the internet. But in this case, this info is all over the internet with no info at all on the source other than people saying so. While you're figuring that one out, here's one of the other tracks from the album that NO ONE seems to know who's playing.

Magic Number- De La Soul
Fun with a Bonham sample to close things out.

Really like John Boutte's new directon with the band. The horns were getting reepitious. The 3 piece ensemble lets his vocals dominate, and his paino player, Oscar Rossognoli, is an absolute beast. Oscar has his own band, Extended, and they have two albums. Sad that John's long time arranger, and guitarist, Todd Duke passed, but John pegged Don Vappie as his replacement, and Don is a solid jazz instrumentalist.

This has got to be the best SOTW zip since last week's. Superlative tunes from Supergrass and Joe Jackson plus the Billy Preston and De La Soul. Not to mention the Prince demo (I thought you said not to mention that? - Ed). Many thanks and cheers!

Oh Mn -- I haven't listened to Lou Ann Barton since I stopped spinning vinyl. Last seen in a parking lot in Syracuse ... :-)

Looks like one of your best SOTW's in a while (naw, dang, they ALL are!) but seriously, great choices. I saw John Boutte at JazzFest last May and this is making me reconsider my decidion not to try to arrange the stars and moon to get there in 2020... and that Prince demo, DAMN!!! Yeah!
