This is one musical icon (of many) that I would like the young people of today to listen to.

What a talent.

Favorite Little Richard song of all. Which is saying plenty. An American treasure gone.

Somehow, tho I knew it to be impossible, I thought his irrepressible spirit would prevent his shifting off his mortal coil. There is a very small handful of artists who make me smile as soon as I hear one of their songs start -- Jimmie Rodgers, Jesus & Mary Chain, Ramones, Ernest Tubb/Red Foley collab, and Little Richard.
For those who want to read about a life like no other -- and read a book that'll have you in stitches, to boot -- get "The Life and Times of Little Richard: The Quasar of Rock" by Charles White. After reading it, I could never look at Little Richard (or Buddy Holly!!) the same.

Still a high School kid in 1971, and into Zappa big time, I was hugely into "Weasels Ripped My Flesh". Took me a few years to realize that "Directly From My Heart To You" was actually a Little Richard song. Amazing stuff.

He was a stunner in every way. And so beloved. Bob Dylan's reaction on Twitter today to Richard's death today turned me into a puddle ("he was my shining star") and really speaks to how extraordinary and deep LR's influence was (and how much a lot of these musicians just plain liked him as a person). Godspeed Richard Wayne Penniman your presence in this world will really be missed. Rock and roll on.
