Tell Me What's On Your Mind- Cyril Neville
This is basically The Meters with vocals by Cyril. A 1969 b-side produced by Allen Toussaint, and as good and funky as anything to come out of New Orleans.

Four Hands- Bombay Orchestra
From the Zep IV bonus LP, this one popped up on shuffle and sounded terrific out of nowhere. It's essentially the orchestrated section of "Four Sticks," isolated.

Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us- Sam Phillips
Was unaware of this original version prior to the Robert Plant and Alison Krauss version. Love both versions.

Scattered- The Kinks
I've mentioned this a number of times on this blog, this track gets my vote for best Ray Davies song from the Arista years, though at this point it was simply Columbia. At the very least, I'll play it safe and call it my favorite late period Ray tune.

So This Is Love- Van Halen
One more for Eddie.

That's Neat, That Nice- NRBQ
Semi-bingeing on The Q, as I tend to do a few times a year. Felt like hearing this one.

Black Cadillac- Rosanne Cash
Miss Cash is prepping a new album and it made me think of this track, one of her very best.

week-in and week-out, one of the best things in the blog-o-sphere. Reliable oldies, reliable newbies, reliable stuff I've never heard even when I thought I knew. It's a gift every week, Sal--thank you. Now more than ever, but always. Thanks.

So great to hear an overlooked song in a new context.

The Sam Phillips song is from 'Don't Do Anything' an album that I found disappointing, particularly falling between two 5 star records: 'Boot & a Shoe' and 'Push Any Button'. But, boom! 'Sister Rosetta' is a great tune! Time to re-evaluate that whole record. And, while I'm at it, perhaps it's time to re-evaluated the Kink's tenure on Arista as well. Thanks!

Once again that's the best SOTW zip since last week's! Never get tired of listening to "Scattered" and a great Van Halen tune too. Cheers!
