"Frenchmen Street Blues; Or Do You Know What It Means To Miss Orleans?": THE WEEKEND MIX

First things first.

Top Left: Dr. John- In The Right Place
Top Right: Brian Eno- Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)
Bottom Left: Al Green- Call Me
Bottom Right: Bee Gees- 1st

There will be a Round Two. I have 2000 CDs I'd like to unload.

And speaking of Dr. John, I've been in a New Orleans mood lately. Well, since 1999, actually. Yesterday was James Booker's birthday and it was also a year since the day we lost "Poppa Funk," Mr. Art Neville.

I thought the time was right for this mix. Gotta keep on' keepin' on! There is a light at the end of the tunnel, so let's not fuck it up NOW!

Stay home. Mask up. Maybe dance a little while. It's ok.

If you're healthy, please stay that way and enjoy the mix.

That is a sensational mix. I think I have most of these songs but see a few I may want to grab. Unfortunately my computer died two days ago and for now everything is done on my phone. Making a mental note to myself to come back to this post after I get a new PC.

Thanks as always for sharing these treasures with us. Happy holidays to BW, and may 2021 be very good to you.

Thanks Sal. I check the weather forecast there everyday and think about Casamento's.

Sal,
Brilliant mix, perfect timing - I needed this mix as I was repeating everything I have over and over since March. Not all new to me, but new sequence.
Cautiously optimistic about getting to NO this coming April May.

Stay safe, stay healthy think spring!

Thanks Sal - great mix. My wife and I have very fond memories of Frenchmen Street. We stayed at a B&B at the top of Bourbon and so it was a 3 minute walk from there to the street where we enjoyed great food, coffee and music. One of our favorite bars was The Spotted Cat and we also ate (and drank) at the Three Muses a few times.

Can't wait to dig in, a lot that is new to me. About a week ago I dug out a few episodes of Treme'. Fabulous music.

Our first trip to New Orleans was in 1995 or 1996, when we went down on a Friday and came back on Sunday. New Orleans clicked for us and we started going on a regular basis, increasing our visits from a few days to a week, until we finally started staying a month each year.

Last March, we were within a week of renting an apartment for three months, I guess there's no need to say how that worked out. It looks like next year we can start up our love affair with The City again (in person, instead of just mentally). Who knows, we might even bump into you; if so, we'll have to see you has the biggest smile on their face.

Thanks for the mix. I'll be listening to it now, plus making a copy for the car for next year's road trip!

This is a great mix.

On that note, I'm so glad I decided to go to JazzFest 2019. The memories of it bubble up to me all the time, like unexpected gifts, long after I paid the bills for it, etc.

Because right now it sure seems unlikely they can have it in 2021.

And by 2022, it will still be fantastic, but some of those treasured older acts may have passed, or won't be touring anymore. For instance, I saw Buddy Guy and Mavis Staples in 2019. I hope they hang in and tour until 2022, or whenever it can return, but who knows.

I thought your cd cover quiz was a trick question because when I juggled the four parts together it looked just like the prawn linguine I had for lunch the day before. Anyway, I may not be the most knowledgeable aficionado of New Orleans music but I know good stuff when I hear it (and I love hearing Irma Thomas any time) so thanks for the mix. Have a great rest of the weekend. Cheers!
