The Rose Of England- Nick Lowe & His Cowboy Outfit
Rotten Peaches- Elton John
I Can't Stand It- The Hot Rats
I Need You- The Wailers
Crucial (Alternate Lyrics)- Prince
We Are One- Allen Toussaint
Here Comes The Future- World Party
The Rose Of England- Nick Lowe & His Cowboy Outfit
Those two Nick Lowe "Cowboy Outfit" records are much better than their reps and this one is a real highlight.
Rotten Peaches- Elton John
Listened to "Madman Across The Water" and this was the one that struck the chord for that spin.
I Can't Stand It- The Hot Rats
I listen "The Who Sell Out" a lot, but I think "Turn Ons" by The Hot Rats is a close second lately. I love this record of brilliant and unique covers. This Lou Reed track opens that set.
I Need You- The Wailers
Early Marley, Tosh and Bunny--haunting and beautiful.
Crucial (Alternate Lyrics)- Prince
Working my way, slowly but surely through that massive Prince "Sign O The Times" box, and though I knew this song from countless bootlegs, it jumped out at me this time around as something really special.
We Are One- Allen Toussaint
Trying to be an Allen Toussaint completist is a daunting task. Production credits, backing vocals, pseudonyms, etcetera, all add to the...uh...fun (?) of tracking things down. This track is easy to find, but I included it because I saw it and didn't remember it. This one is on that Joe Henry produced collaboration "I Believe To My Soul."
Here Comes The Future- World Party
A new year, still no word from Karl Wallinger. So I'll give him the last word here.

Love that Allen Toussaint track, and the whole I Believe to My Soul album.
Nick Lowe’s mid-80s albums—And His Cowboy Outfit, Rose of England, Pinker and Prouder Than Previous—are all top notch in my book. The track that leads your week is one of my favorites.

Thanks so much. I look forward to these all of the time.
I echo Troy. Joe henry's I Believe To My Soul was a terrific labor of love.
Been bingeing on Elton John as I've just finished reading his bio "Me" and he mentions the "Madman" album was recorded in four days. Blimey! And keep plugging away with the World Party tunes. Many thanks for the best SOTW zip since last week's. Cheers!
