Happy Birthday To Me

"And the sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older, shorter of breath and one day closer to death."

-Roger Waters

"Cheer Up, Rog."

-Sal Nunziato

I don't love my birthday. It has nothing to do with getting older. Well, not now it doesn't, and hopefully it won't ever bother me. I swear on a stack of Who Sell Outs it's just because I just don't like the attention.  Or to be clear, I don't like that type of attention. Obviously, I'm drawing attention to it with this post. But I am in control of it all, and that works for me.

My ideal way of celebrating anything---Christmas, Birthday, Old Stuff Day (also today, by the way), a 30% Off Sale At Raymour & Flanigan---is pulling up a bar stool with a few of my favorite people and having a few pops while some amazing music plays. A good view of an ocean on a hot summer day ain't bad either. I don't need a cake, or gifts or a special meal. All wonderful things, they are. But it makes me uncomfortable when that extra effort is put in all on one day, especially when I have people in my life who do stuff like that all year round.

I know not everyone feels this way. That's okay. Some of the greatest times imaginable have been celebrating the birthdays of friends. But that's because the attention is on them and I can just watch them enjoying it all.

It's another year, and as you can see, little has changed...except maybe my choice of beverage.

I don't mind. I have no complaints.

Today, let's celebrate my way. Have a pop and listen to this mix.

Cheers to all of you.

Good health, good food, good booze and good music.

Gotta respect the man who isn't afraid to let everyone know he prefers good whiskey to overly sweet cake.
And gotta agree. A toast to you, sir. May you enjoy many more...

On their birthdays, hobbits give gifts to everyone ELSE! Thanks for taking up that tradition with your musical gift here.

So I’m a hobbit now! This better not implode!

No better way to celebrate another year on this rock than with some fine tunes. Hope you've had at least a tolerable (and hopefully way better than that) birthday, Sal!
