Zipper Job- ZZ Top
I didn't say much regarding the passing of bassist Dusty Hill. Or Tom T. Hall. Or Lee "Scratch" Perry. It sure was a tough week for giants. But I'll get things started with a song from my favorite ZZ TOP record, "Rhythmeen."

Houses In Motion- Angelique Kidjo
I can't think of too many artists who have taken a classic album, covered it completely and made it just as good, if not better. Angelique Kidjo may be the only one.

Cabbies On Crack- The Ramones
One of the better later Ramones tracks, this one features Vernon Reid on guitar.

She Took A Long Cold Look- Syd Barrett
"The Madcap Laughs" is an all timer for me. It is perfectly strange and strangely, perfect.

New York- St. Vincent
Subtle, yet heavy. Crazy times.

Animal- The Kinks
Is this the last song recorded by Ray & Dave? It might be unless they get some of that rumoured new stuff out.

Ballad For Very Tired & Very Sad Lotus Eaters- Ken Peplowski Quartet
The great jazz player Ken Peplowski is an old friend of mine. I was reminded of a phone call, or a number of calls actually, where Ken was having computer trouble. His problem seemed like a very easy fix to me, as do most things when you know how to fix them. But Ken, after a few calls, still couldn't get it right. My frustration level was getting high and I barked, "How can you NOT understand this?" And he calmly replied, "Play anything on the clarinet." He sure set me straight. I laughed for an hour. I am still laughing. Anyway, listen to Ken's beautiful playing on this last track.

First heard Angelique Kidjo on her version of Voodoo Chile (perhaps from this very blog) and that Barrett track takes me back. Thanks for doing up the zip. Cheers!
