Goodbye 2021, Hello 2020

I won't be taking my annual dip in the ocean with the Coney Island Polar Bears tomorrow. Or beginning the day with an early breakfast of hot dogs and beer at Nathan's. It all seems too risky. But today is the last day of the year and rather than making a list of all the promises I will break four days into January, I decided to ban all resolutions.

Not gonna diet. Or quit drinking. Or become a nicer person. Or be more responsible. I think I will just swear more often and maybe buy a pair of pants that fit.

And I am going to listen to Ted Nugent's brilliant 1975 solo album completely free of guilt.

Ted's a dick. We all know that. And I have neglected that 1975 gem of record for far too long because Ted is a dick. But that's just silly. It doesn't matter how many times I marvel at the riffage and groove of "Stranglehold" or the swingin' funk of "Hey Baby," it won't make Ted any better or worse. He'll continue being a dick until he dies and me loving this album won't make a bit of a difference.

I'm gonna play this baby loud and no one will get hurt. That's a fact. When Side Two finishes, I might listen to some Clapton, too! And then I am going to have a New Year's Day, Woody Allen marathon! How about them apples?

Have a safe, happy and healthy New Year's Eve.

Y'know, other than Stranglehold, I've not heard this album - Hey Baby has me thinking I may need to check the Dick's album out.

I happened to click on the Sugar Sugar cover - Oh my! The YT vid had an image of the album cover with songs listed so I listened to Tom's cover of Venus. Oh my, my! Shouldn't have gone there either.

Sounds like you have a fun and interesting day ahead of you. It just so happens that when I finish writing this I am going to spin your favorite album of 2021 for the first time since getting it for myself for Christmas.

Happy New Year!!

Mr., you're a better man than I. I still can't separate the art from the artist of too many loudmouths. But, while you're at it, 'Call of the Wild' is an awesome Amboy Dukes album.

Too bad you're missing the Polar Bears again. You probably have the same concern I have for tonight. Which pair of sweatpants am I going to wear to the couch?

Have a Happy New Year. Let's hope the bubble bursts early in 22 so we can get out.

What!? No Van Morrison to complete the music dick trifecta?

I've avoided buying Van Morrison's latest in part because of his assholism (if that's not already a word, it should be) and because the (non-Covidiot) tracks I've listened to were just okay. Plus, being mortally-endowed with cash, I tend to buy most of my music on sale and/or used. Once it hits the used/markdown section, I'll probably buy the CD because I do have the completist disease when it comes to certain artists' studio catalogs. Snagged a copy of Free-for-All from the $1 CD bin a few months back. Have a Significantly-Improved New Year, Sal!!!

I owned a copy of that record. Happy New Year! No resolutions here either.

Man - I played this Lp 100 times or more during my 1970's High School years. And, "Hey Baby" was one of my favorite tunes on it.

That track and "Honey Hush" from the Foghat Lp "Fool for the City". Guitar was King in those days... After Pat Travers mid-to-late 70's Lp's, the synth's and drum machines took-over.

I have never liked Ted Nugent much less owned any of his music. My resolution is to continue on that path.

Wishing all a healthy and happy 2022. Think we all need some good news!

Hmmm....let's see taking a dip in frostbite inducing waters, or drinking swill while consuming a rat feet and cow brains concoction or THE NUDGE? Let the hypothermia and stomach pumping begin

Jobe,
I've done it for 12 years and none of those things ever happened. But thanks for making a lovely day sound so horrible.

Having been bombarded by the Nuge's Cat Scratch Fever throughout high school, I never had any desire to listen further. Hey Baby--now that's a pretty good song!

Other than Journey To The Center Of The Mind and Stranglehold, I too have not heard much Nuge-adjacent product, and what I've heard is uninspiring; I made this determination way back when Teddy was still a funny interview, and not the dickhole he's become. But of course I'm gonna give Hey Baby a spin since it's recommended by not only our esteemed host, but by a couple o' posters, to boot.
Claptrap and Van the Wan can continue down their paths of insignificance, but nothing will negate their past blazes of glory in mine eyes.

Three totally useless Nungent bits from my memory banks ...

* I once saw Ted Nugent in concert -- my ears rang for a week!

* A kid I went to high school with actually caught Cat Scratch Fever (it has a fancy medical name). The parents didn't understand why we broke into song around Dave's near death experience!

* And I (kinda) recall an epic rant from Ted about Detroit promoting Vernor's Ginger Ale! (if you are from that part of the world you know what I'm talking about).

All that notwithstanding ... Happy New Year everybody and a special Vernors 2022 toast to Sal!
