Not The Best Of 2021

I am working on my end of year list of favorites. I can tell you right now, Neil Young & Crazy Horse's "Barn" will not be on it. As a matter of fact, the song "Canerican" is so horrible, it makes me hate "On The Beach." If Bob Dylan's lyrics to "Blowin' In The Wind" were  called "Canerican," it would suck by default. The only redeeming quality of "Canerican" is that is rhymes with "Shmanerican." Seriously, "Canerican't" and should not. "I'm Afraid of Canericans!" The best thing about "Barn" is that it made me appreciate "Trans." So I guess there will be no "Crosbican, Stillsican, Nashican and Youngican" reunion any time soon.

Okay, I'm done. Tip your waitresses.

Here's the highlight from "Barn" which is just not enough to save yet another piece of wax from Neil's ever-growing pile of dreck.

I've been waiting to listen to the whole thing this weekend, but my hopes aren't too high. While I admire Neil for continuing to put out new music when most everyone else his age is touring their hit album from 1932, the results just aren't there. My expectations were already low, and this post has made me accelerate my plans for building an expectations sub-basement.

Yeah, "Canerican" is not one of the high points on it, for sure. It's got some decent stuff on it, though -- maybe 50%.

Canerican...Ouch! Well, I guess I'll just listen to Pop's Father Father instead.

BTW, Prior to Pop's YT video, I had to sit through Johnny Depp's Dior commercial. That guy is just too cool for school...and I don't mean that in a good way.

So, I guess that you're not saying, "More barn!"

The last NY album that I enjoyed from beginning to end was the 1979, Live Rust. Many post 1979 albums had their moments for me but not enough to keep me that interested.(I am not referring to his archival releases here).

Recently, I went back and listened to Living With War. My thought was "why did I buy this record?"

Some of his stuff sounds like Neil Young spoofing Jimmy Fallon spoofing Neil Young.

I think Neil has earned the right to release whatever the heck he likes...and he still writes and sounds better than Dylan.

It's that bad that you appreciate Trans? Blimey! I remember skimming the Trans LP across the room in despair & have never really revisited it. Only listened to Welcome Home so far, with fingers crossed that at least the guitar soloing would be worth the wait which, to be fair, it was. Cheers!

That Billie clip was great! I love that she smiled at the end.

Lazy, if you ask me. Young has produced an awful lot of work like this. I get the feeling that he thinks he’s a genius and anything he produces is automatically a classic.

I’m pretty sure Neil agrees with you.
