Angel's Heap- Finn Brothers
I almost saw the Finn Brothers at the Supper Club when they toured behind this album. I was there. It was mobbed. Everyone was 6'4" and so I stood on a couch off to the side. This lasted three songs and security told me to not stand on the couch. I calmly stated my case. He told me to please get down. He left and I got up on the couch again. After a few more songs, he returned. He then escorted me to the lobby. Humiliated and frustrated, I gave up and walked out. This song is better than that whole experiece, I promise.

May You Never- John Martyn
I first heard this by Eric Clapton. A fine version, but I prefer Martyn's original.

Gasoline & Matches- Buddy & Julie Miller
"Baby, I'm incarcerated and I don't want out
Baby, we should get related 'cause there ain't no doubt
When your heart and my heart attaches
You and me are gasoline and matches"

Getaway Car- Hall & Oates
I knew a guy, a customer. Really nice guy named Gary. We'd talk music of course. He was a songwriter. One day he came in to tell me Hall & Oates recorded one of his songs. This is it. Nice job, Gary.

Dead Man Walking- David Bowie
The 5th giant Bowie box was released back in November. This one covering the years 1992-2001. I have been enjoying the hell out of it. I really believe this is Bowie's most underrated and neglected period. He wasn't very popular in the 90s. As a matter of fact, I witnessed one third of a Madison Square Garden audience head for the exits when opener Nine Inch Nails finished their set. This track was a single from 1997's "Earthling" LP.

Something Is Slipping My Mind- The Rails
One of my favorites from James Walbourne and Kami Thompson, aka The Rails. These harmonies make me melt every time.

Tipitina-Professor Longhair
Last word goes to Fess. This way you leave happy.

Happy New Year everyone!

Happy New Year!

May You Never is a glorious pick, and such a beautiful song, as many of Martyn's gentler are. Thanks!.

Cool story about that Hall & Oates song!

I saw the Finn Brothers once, here in Atlanta, and it was super good. The song from their album of that time, "Anything Can Happen," has been on many mixtapes and mix CDs since then.

Also - happy new year!
