Move On Up

There's been a lot of press on the Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio, with mostly positive reviews for the new album, "Cold As Weiss." Of course, the one I focused on was Mojo's, a three star, not quite rave review.

Then, coincidentally, a text from a friend popped up with this video. All of us on the text agreed, this was a blast.

So, I decided to listen to "Cold As Weiss." And I agree with Mojo. It's an okay, hip organ trio record, that grooves along with few surprises. Nothing on it quite reaches the heights of say, a classic Jimmy Smith or Meters record. But...this live in the studio Curtis cover is something else.

There is a full length album of this live KEXP performance. I am going to try that next.

But for now, check out "Move On Up." There are worse ways to start a Tuesday.

I like the video, but it seems like the guitar is put a little too much in front of the mix. Need to check out the studio lp.

It's...OK.

Without the horns, the song loses it's punch, IMO. Even Paul Weller knew enough to have horns on The Jam's cover.

You don't need horns. It's all about the groove! Horns makes it another "Move On Up" cover.

I've listened to the Trio record a couple of times - not much there for me. A bit too much organ happening, I tend to funk down best without organ or horns, ala The Meters.

Yeah, Randy. The new record comes and goes. As you said, not much there. I did enjoy watching them with this cover, though.

I listened to the album and didn't hear anything unique. All well played, but nothing makes me want to listen again. This cover is tasty, though too long. It does make me want to listen to one of my favorite organ/guitar albums, so here's a link to sample that: Relentless.

I don't know about the album but this had a nice groove going for it in a Brother Jack McDuff kind of a way. Plus I liked watching them play.Thanks.

Never heard 'em before, so thanks!

Good groove on Memphis from their Live at KEXP release, but I agree with consensus here. A little goes a long way
