I realize the Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio didn't exactly overwhelm anyone on Tuesday, but as I said in the post, I wasn't really overwhelmed by their new studio album either.
I did quite like the live cover though, and as I also mentioned, I was going to give that full KEXP performance a spin to find out if there was more like "Move On Up."
I did and I loved it enough to share a few tracks.
The big difference betweeen "Cold As Weiss" and "Live At KEXP!" is that the former seems to be Lamarr's show while the live performance allows guitarist Jimmy James to bust out a bit more, giving the trio some dynamics not found in the studio material.
James is a great player, as you will hear on these two originals. If you just don't have the patience to get into the groove, James is highlighted on the first track "Concussion" at the 2:38 mark and on the second track, "Tacoma Black Party" at the 1:55 mark. Personally, I think Jimmy James is playing some incredibly tasty stuff on this session, even if a few of the moves will seem familiar.
While I just about made it through "Cold As Weiss," when "Live At KEXP!" was over, I was ready to go back in all over again. It really is that much better.

Nice. I have a copy of their LP "I Told You So" here on vinyl that I got recently and haven't had a chance to spin yet. Sounds like they would be fun to see live...
I liked the Move On Up video you posted the other day. Will take a listen to these.
And speaking of the jazz guitar, I've been dipping back in to some of the Benny Goodman small groups sessions with Charlie Christian. Their takes on Stardust and These Foolish Things are some of my favorite versions of those songs.

Both of these tracks are great but Tacoma - Wow! Jimmy reminds me of another Jimi we all know and love.
I know the band is called the Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio for a reason but for me Delvon's organ is too forward in the mix. Cool that down a bit and pump up Jimmy's guitar and we might have something.

Both solos were great but hot shit that second clip's solo came out of the guitar god blue. Unexpected and great.

Thanks for including the DLT in your posts. I discovered them through Friday night scrolls through bandcamp early in the pandemic. The KEXP show is a definite highpoint in their early trajectory. The first two records are with drummer Dave McGraw and I think he and Jimmy James had a really good connection. New drummer Daniel Weiss might not quite be there yet. Still, a likeable band in that retro/funky/vibe area. Hope to see them live sometime.

I dig those tracks. I have a Hammond, and the idea of playing bass lines with my feet and soloing with the keyboard at the same time is preposterous.
