Oh Well Maybe- The Grays
Both Jon Brion and Jason Falkner have gone on to do some amazing things, including writing film scores, playing with Paul McCartney, Aimee Mann, Cheap Trick, Air & St. Vincent, as well as their brilliant and somewhat non-existent solo careers. Their sole record together as The Grays needs to be reissued in deluxe form NOW!

The Song We Were Singing- Paul McCartney
From "Flaming Pie," a late career gem from Sir Paul that popped up on the iPod last week and really did the trick.

Jenni- Geraint Watkins
This one might as well be on a Nick Lowe record.

Safesurfer- Julian Cope
I found an original copy of "Peggy Suicide" at a record show last week, my personal favorite from madman Cope. This one is long, so try and stick it out.

(I Love It When You)- Call Me Names- Joan Armatrading
Joan's "Track Record" should be mentioned when discussing perfect "hits" compilations. Found a cheap copy at that same record show I just mentioned and passed it on to a friend. This one was all over FM radio back in the day.

Come To Mama- Ann Peebles
Our friend Kirke mentioned this one in the comments section, so of course I had to hear it. And by the way Kirke, don't feel bad. I didn't realize the Bob Seger version was a cover either.

Back To The Beginning- Bill Bruford
And speaking of FM radio back in the day, Vin Scelsa played this and "Adios A La Pasada" both from Bruford's "Feels Good To Me," back to back when it was released. Both tracks, by the way, feature the one and only Annette Peacock on vocals. It didn't seem out of the ordinary then, but it blows my mind now that this track was played along side Boston and Little Feat.

As per Radio back in the day. I grew up on LI in the 70's and the 2 stations I listened to were WLIR (before it went new wave) and WNEW. they would debut and play full albums. I first heard Pink Floyd Animals on WLIR and was blown away as a 16 year old. One of the stations played all of ELP Works vol.1. After playing the full piano concerto, the DJ came on and commented by saying; "not what you usually here on this station". The station manager must have been saying WTF are we playing. I was not thrilled with the album and still think it's very mediocre

that first Bruford album was SO good it made his following good albums disappointing.

"Oh Well Maybe" and "The Very Best Years" are the 2 songs I share with folks when introducing The Grays to someone. Wish they would have done more of this project - it's a very strong power pop record and stuck with me more than other post-Jellyfish releases. I haven't yet heard the new Lickerish release, but I've really enjoyed their stuff so far

That Bruford album is really good. There was a time that I was so enthralled by Annette Peacock that I drove my friends crazy. She is something else. She's 81 years old now. I wish her well.

I love the McCartney track, and the Flaming Pie LP.
