Music has always been my passion, but I was sidetracked early into a career as an artist. In second grade I showed an ability to draw, and from then on, was encouraged by my parents to turn it into a vocation. My dad, a mechanical engineer, figured I could exploit my talent to get a real job some day as a technical illustrator, or industrial designer. I worked in the film industry as a scenic artist, set decorator, and carpenter. I had a career fabricating and maintaining exhibits at The American Museum of Natural History. I painted pictures, and had gallery representation in New York City.
In fourth grade, I started playing trumpet in the school band, and continued through high school.
In college, I traded my horn for an electric guitar.
I listened to a lot more music when I was a painter than I do now that I'm a musician. It was while painting I found a preference for instrumental music, as it could more easily relegated to the background as I worked. Now that I'm retired, I'm not making any more physical art objects, and plan to spend whatever time I have left making music.
I always say this painting tried to kill me.
