Out Of Time

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Rolling Stones, performing for the first time ever in concert, "Out Of Time."

How is that possible? According to Setlist.fm, "You Got Me Rockin'" has been performed 459 times.

It's a bit of a lifeless version, though Mick sounds pretty good. I'm more amazed at the lack of enthusiasm by the Spanish crowd upon first hearing that marimba intro.

Word on the street is, the band has been soundchecking "Mother's Little Helper," another first.

I so wish the Stones - and so many other great bands - would drastically mix up the setlist. They never will. I guess at this point they're assuming any given show may be someone's first/only time to see the band, so songs I never need to hear again live (Gimme Shelter, Miss You, Start Me Up, etc) must always be played.

The Seville paper had a somewhat less than glowing review of the concert- lifeless was used to describe more than that one song.

459 times? Damn, that's a lot for such a minor tune. They really should mix it up more. Don't hate it as much as you do, Sal, but they can surely do better.

Meanwhile, the UK's New Musical Express gave the show a raving 5 star review.

A while back ago I had purchased tickets to see one of my favorite bands - The Wonder Stuff- play in London later this month. Turns out that the Stones are playing a few nights later so now I'll be going to both shows. Fingers crossed that we get Out of Time instead of You Got me Rocking!

The Stones look like trying to entertain the kids has kept them up way beyond their bedtimes.

Also doing this tour without Charlie may have taken some of the pleasure out of it for the boys.

If they truly are doing this tour just for the money I hope this will be the last one!

They are getting fucking old, we all are.

Have to say: Keith's playing on Honky Tonk last night is much better than it's been in years

Speaking of old, the latest Rock’s Backpages podcast features Robert Greenfield, on the Stones in 1971-72. I bought his book STP, Stones Touring Party to read now that I’ve binge watched all of Danny Boyle’s Pistol series.

That was pretty great.

I’m sorry, but the truth is that these guys can’t play anymore. Or maybe they just don’t care, but they’re playing in different time zones. This has been going on for years.

Wait, they've never played Mother's Little Helper in concert before? A Top 10 hit? I mean, they've got a lot of them but I'm surprised. Maybe it has to do with playing big spaces and that's less suited.

Hi. I attended the concert in Madrid and honestly, it was great.
Concerning "Out of Time", what Mick explains in the intro (and in very poor Spanish) is that "it is the first time they re playing" the song live)

Lifeless version for sure, but let's give Mick credit for still trying to move like he's in his 20's--and I think he does a pretty great job. His Fitbit has to be registering 50,000 steps per show!

I mean, that's taking the place of "You Got Me Rocking", so...thumbs down.

I want 18 versions of "You Got Me Rocking" every night. that's it.

@ Chris Collins
I'll take "Indian Girl" over "You Got Me Rocking."
But seriously, the post was really about being amazed that this was the first ever live performance of "Out Of Time." I promise, I wasn't here to rag on the boys.
