People don't talk about The Easybeats nearly as much as they should. Maybe that's a U.S. thing. But as I listened to their "Absolute Anthology" last night, every song made me think, "How could people not love this?"
There are Beatles and Stones fanatics. Byrds, Kinks and Hollies fanatics. There are people who love Motown and garage rock. People who love glam rock. The Easybeats do all of this and they do it really well. Is it possible that here in the U.S., The Easybeats are still just that one-hit wonder band who sang "Friday On My Mind?"
Listen to "Heaven & Hell." This is one of the greatest records ever made. Hooks, chops, structure. Brilliance!
How about "Made My Bed, Gonna Lie In It?" This is not your run of the mill rock and roll record. There is something bigger and better going on in most of The Easybeats singles.
Of course, you must know and love "Good Times," with that killer cameo from Steve Marriott? How about "St. Louis?" Can you really not dance or feel moved to clap and sing along to that chorus?
What about "You Said That," an early beat pop track that could have fit perfectly on "With The Beatles?" Or "What In The World," a slice of infectious bubblegum soul to die for.
I can do this for all 40 tracks on the anthology.
When the Easybeats rock, they rock hard. Every track is unique. They can harmonize with the best of them. The Easybeats, thanks to the genius of Harry Vanda and George Young, are simply one of the greatest bands in the land and they deserve some air time on everyone's playlist.

There are a few of us who have been Easybeats fans since day one.
Maybe Sal can convince a few more readers to get on board loving' them because if anything Sal has understated how good The Easybeats could be.

Well you're not preaching to the choir with me! Never really paid any attention to them. Looking at their discography it seems no one is wildly enthusiastic about any particular album. So the anthology is the way to go for newcomers?

The "Absolute Anthology" has 40 tracks. You can't go wrong.
Add in Vanda and Young's "Flash and the Pan" project and you get the weirdly fine angle.
Maybe more people today would be more crazy about the Easybeats, if it was pointed out that George Young was the older brother of Angus, Malcolm, and Stevie Young of ACDC.
Unless those people dislike AC/DC. Could be a deterrent.
That's an outstanding collection! All I ever knew before that was "Friday On My Mind".
There's also a "Definitive" Anthology with 56 tracks.
