I want to thank Marc for requesting a Marshall Crenshaw mix. This gives me another week to figure out the next selections in my Top 150 countdown.

Nice! I'm a Crenshaw fanatic, so I have most of these, but had never seen that he'd covered 'Odorono.' I'm sure you've heard Petra Haden's cover of that album - sure do love it.

Unfortunately when Marshall sings with the Smithereens they always do a few obvious covers (The Who, Beatles, Kinks, Beach Boys, Bad Finger) but never a Crenshaw song. I always thought it would be great to hear his songs with the Smithereens' muscle behind them. Oddly they do cover the Gin Blossoms when Robin Wilson plays with them. Maybe it's Marshall's choice?
And that Gin Blossoms tuine, if you are referring to "Til I Hear It From You" was written by Marshall.
Damn! I should have included MC's demo of that on the mix.

Thanks! He doesn't make it out to California that often but I did see him with the Smithereens last year. Like above, I was disappoinbted they didn't play any of his tunes.
He was playing with Los Straitjackets last time he did his songs here and that was great.
I've also been on a Crenshaw kick and have been listening to 9 volt years and #447. I just love hearing artist's demos in their unaltered form. They seem more pure and ragged at the same time. Anxious to hear the mix.

Thanks for MC mix, Sal. And hello to Steve. This is two sightings in two days! It's great to see you getting around again. We missed you. And to tie this together, the first time I heard of Marshall Crenshaw was in a review in the magazine formerly known as Stereo Review. Probably that first album.
Wow - glad my suggestion has proven to be so popular. I too loved (and still love) his debut album, but really need to bring myself up to speed on the less obvious tracks - so this is just perfect!
