I first wrote about The Whiffs in 2020. You can read what I wrote over here, but I basically described the band as "Tom Petty meets The MC5." After listening to their killer follow-up, "Scratch N Sniff," I may need to amend my description.
The Whiffs are from Kansas City and yeah, they can rock like the Motor City Five, while keeping the harmonies alive like TP and The Heartbreakers, but on this new record, they deliver a giant helping of skinny tie power pop recalling the best of Paul Collins, Pezband and even the Raspberries.
Give these guys a spin and then go get yourself a copy of your own at Bandcamp.
I am loving "Scratch N Sniff."

Oh man, that is def a huge scoop of power pop. Also reminds me a little of the Bay City Rollers (coincidentally, we are friends with the guy who was their drummer on their tour outings - not at all what you would expect, but his stories are surreal about that experience).
I just happened to listen to 'Another Whiff' last week - great album! The new one sounds a little different, as you say, but stills sounds 'Whiffy'.
Have you heard the debut, from 2017, 'Take A Whiff'?
Randy
Well THAT made day.
A timely share for a sunny weekend, sir. Love this album! You had me with your Paul Collins mention - Shot Thru could easily be from The Beat’s debut (Highest Praise).
I see The Whiffs will be playing NYC next Saturday - lucky you!

Callback: As Apple Music will do, they recommended the following band - one you shared in 2019:

Testimony to your consistent brilliance with the shares.
Thank you for the soundtrack to the weekend, Sal!
3 excellent songs, I want to hear more. Thanks for the tip!
On the great Dig! label out of Leesburg, VA!
Thanks for the recommendation Sal. Just downloaded the album from iTunes.
that album was a blast. For a minute I wondered if the distortion on the vocals was intended throughout or a corrupted digital file. I guess musical reproduction worries have gone from the vinyl is scratched to the cassette tape is warped to the CD is dirty to the digital file is corrupted. Eventually, I just grooved into the sound of the vocals as a garage band sort of thing and the album is terrific. Immediately on best of the year list.
The Whiffs playing Nashville on a triple bill..for $10. TEN DOLLARS! I love young bands but I cannot remember the last time paying $10 for a concert ticket. I'll have to buy a CD or vinyl at the show so they can buy lunch for themselves the next day!
These 3 tunes have gotten my attention. I’m going to listen to the rest and get back to you.
My friend Joe just turned me on to the Whiffs this week. I love this!
