Act Natural- Margaret Glaspy
My second and third spins of Margaret Glaspy's new one, "Echo The Diamond," sealed the deal. This is a great album. Listen to it.
Open A Can Of Human Beans- The Dukes Of Stratosphear
The iPod was surprising me in all the best ways last week. Four of this week's songs are all courtesy of that brilliant little machine, including this deep cut from the Dukes, aka XTC. Fantastic low harmonies from Sir John Johns, aka Andy Partridge.
Barracuda- John Cale
I couldn't brave the living hell that is the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway or the 100 minute, late night subway ride back home to witness John Cale's free concert in Prospect Park last week. But man, that set list was good, including the finale, the rarely played "Barracuda" from 1974's "Fear" album.
Slip On Through- The Beach Boys
From "Sunflower," one of the Beach Boys most underrated. (Or has that changed in the last 20 years?)
It Comes In Waves- Mike Viola
It sure does!
Letters Don't Count- The Nazz/ Vini, Jilie- Steve Riley & The Mamou Playboys
These two came one after the other on the iPod and I loved how a 60's garage band from Philly segued so perfectly into a Louisiana Cajun folk tune. I hope you agree.

I think with that massive boxed set of the Sunflower/Surf's Up sessions that at least Sunflower is getting its due these days. I like the lo-fi Friends even more, but Sunflower is getting closer the more I play it.
I like "20/20" better than both.
Where's that Dukes cut from? The only version I have is from Andy's Fuzzy Warbles.
@cmealha
The Steven Wilson BD set.
Looking forward to this!
Speaking of Andy Partridge, I just got the EP he did in 2019 with Robyn Hitchcock. Really wonderful stuff, recommended.
I may have said this before, but Psonic Psunspots may be my favorite XTC record. No cap, as the young 'uns say.
Would have loved to see Cale play Barracuda live. An under-the-radar gem from Fear.
