Fine Line- Paul McCartney
This opening track from "Chaos & Creation In The Backyard" never fails to make my day. The whole album, actually. It's the most Beatle-ly sounding record Paul has ever recorded, and the arrangement on this track--from the banging piano to the descending bass line to the subtle strings on the second verse and the build on the coda--sounds like it could have been on any of the Fabs last four or five records.

Every Night About This Time- Fats Domino
Because some Fats every now and then is good for ya!

Tell Moses- Shawn Colvin & Steve Earle
I had mixed feelings about this collaboration when it first came out and so I forgot about it. But I revisited it and enjoyed most of it. The originals are all better than the covers.

Feel Alright- Cargoe
Been awhile since I listened to the other Big Star. Good song from a good record.

Happier Alone- Mansion Harlots
Power pop or just perfect pop? Call it whatever you want, this track is immense.

Twilight- The Band

"I never gave it a second thoughtIt never crossed my mindWhat's right and what's notI'm not the judgin' kindI can take the darknessStorms in the skiesBut we all got certain trialsBurnin' up insideDon't put me in a frame upon the mantel'Fore memories grow dusty old and grayYou don't leave me alone in the twilight'Cause twilight is the loneliest time of dayAnd don't leave me alone in the twilight'Cause twilight is the loneliest time of day"-------Thanks, Robbie.

Rockets- Joe Walsh
I first heard this beauty on the b side of "A Life Of Illusion." It's been a favorite ever since.

Never heard of Cargoe - I knew I had heard the tune before... think, think, think, couldn't place it... then, finally, The dB's!! Never knew that was a cover version.

I've gotta give Chaos some attention - you've done other songs from it on SOTW.

Great mix, love the Mansion Harlots!

thanks, Sal. A more unfamiliar collection than usual ... can't wait to check them out.

Thanks for this! Joe Walsh ... it's funny, I never gave one thought to him growing up. Nowadays I listen to his music a ton and love it. Time has a way of revealing things that were right in front of me but I'm just now noticing! I think I got hung up on his goofy hits like "Life's Been Good" ... the smaller, quieter, more intricate songs he did solo and with the James Gang are so much more interesting to me.

Noel M, exactly. Walsh's reflective deep cuts are masterful melancholy. Every year, reminded of his Indian Summer "Well the summers are hot and the winters get cold
Not a lot smarter, but another year old
Sometimes I'm still at the fishing hole

And you never needed bait where we used to go
Just a safety pin hook on a bamboo pole
Take the big ones home; let the little ones go (far away)"
