Overwhelmed? Hell yeah!
You walk into a dark room. There is no light, or air conditioning. It's just wall to wall, floor to ceiling boxes of 45s. A box might say "What's Going On" written in Sharpie. In the box, if you're unlucky, will be 25 stock copies of Big Youth's "What's Going On." If you're lucky, it will be mislabeled and inside will be 25 random 45s, some with blank labels, others so dirty, you'll need to sandblast the gunk off each side. Multiply that box by...well...a lot. That was a day of digging and I loved every minute of it.
I found a few gems, like the Bob & Marcia 45 that closes out this mix, a $150 record. Or, that cover of "Hooked On A Feeling" by Boris Gardiner & The Love People, which looks like this:
That was the most fun, grabbing the mystery discs and discovering the music. It could be a great track worth $2, or a so-so track worth $100. I was lucky enough to get a number of both in varying combinations.
Hope you enjoy the mix. These tracks are a few of my favorite finds.

Sounds like it was a fun trip all 'round.
Sal, not having any luck with the link - nothing happens when I click on it.

Randy,
It's working on my end, not just internally but as a straight click from the blog itself.
Maybe refresh your browser.
Got is with a different browser. What a great mix, especially love the Count Prince Miller track!
Thanks for this, keep 'em coming!!
Randy
Nice report - gives a tactile feel of what it was like for this type of sort.
Can't wait to hear the mix!
might the trip actually be financially good for you besides fun good music etc? if so good4u :)

"might the trip actually be financially good for you besides fun good music etc?"
Theoretically, if people buy the records I am selling. That still seems to be an obstacle lately.
I wish I could have seen you do the fast flip through all of these, if that was even possible!
Listening now and wow, the song "Always Together" sounds like the basis for a song by one of my favorite artists, Jeb Loy Nichols - are y'all familiar with him? The guy doesn't know how to put out a bad song or record - I love every thing he does.
Here's Jeb Loy's version of that song - it's listed as his authorship, so I guess it differs enough...

p.s. I agree with Christine's comment, I'd love to see a fast flip !!!!
Jamaica? not Queens but Jamaica Jamaica. I want to tell my Bob Marley story I think it was 78’ taking a year off work in a cannery south of Santa Cruz. He comes to town for one show it’s overbooked doors close and then they announce bob’s gonna do a second show.A true Rastafarian mensch move. I’m first in line doors open stampede inside and out. I’m standing against the stage for Bob and the wailers,…it was a religious experience Junior Marvin, the Barrett brothers rhythm section Rita… it was truly the most religious moment of my wife. He was God My name is Eric. You may know me as the inkslinger, but I’m not using Google so I can sign in . thank you Sal for allowing me to use your space to tell my story. I hope you find a copy of Gregory Isaacs night nurse.
