What's not to love? Sounds fantastic - and I'm not even that much of a Crowes fan. I love the ascending guitar line (humming it already) and the sharp crash of the drums - very cool.
I have loved this band for thirty years. The different iterations help define the changes in their records. Like the Grateful Dead, many albums simply give you a taste of what the live shows are like. When the songs hit, though, man, they HIT. Yay R. Brothers!
Okay, so four of the first five comments are from "not really fans of the Black Crowes" but "this is pretty good" people.
Let me weigh in early:
I am a huge fan of the BCs. Even their two weakest albums--"Lions"(Don Was ruins everybody) and "Warpaint"---have enough great music that I can comfortably say, there are no bad BC albums.
From 1992-2010, there was no better live band. If they played a week at the Beacon Theatre, I was there 4 of the 5 nights. I flew solo to NOLA, to see them at the House Of Blues. I love this band.
That said, this new song is a pleasant surprise. As I say in the post, "I'll take it." Just thrilled there is a new album. BUT...the verses are a note for note rip, phrasing too of "Jealous Again."
I hope this doesn't do what that new Peter Gabriel did. We wait and wait and wait and he delivers 12 templates of earlier better songs. I don't want 5 "Jealous Agains" and 5 "Remedies."
One last thing, for those who are not really fans, find some time and listen to both "Southern Harmony" and "By Your Side." These records are the very defintion of rock and soul.
Yesterday was Starting And Staring, today is Wanting And Waiting. I'm seeing a pattern here of two verbs in the title, with one letter different. Does that mean tomorrow we'll get the new song by someone about their last meal, Sipping And Supping? Or their last sex act (figure that one out yourself....)? C in California
I only have the "Greatest Hits" and that's certainly enjoyable enough. :-) I will say "Remedy" was on my first pass when I was trying to nail down my 150 favorite songs, though.
My guess is that they felt a new album was needed to support the supposed upcoming tour. Rumors are that they will be making a NO Jazz Fest appearance this year. I fall into the camp that Sal described above; not a huge fan, but the sample had my toes tapping.
I will agree that they were a fantastic live band. Hope that continue. I always enjoyed a fair amount of their music but found them somewhat uneven. New song is a nice welcome and I hope a strong new phase in their careers. We will be “watching and waiting”. Oops

Whodah thunk? I"m also not much of a Crowes fan, but sounds pretty good.
Love your SOTD!

Last month we got the deluxe version of Southern Home (which sounds great) and today a brand new TBC song. It's a good time to be a Black Crowes fan.
Have only listened to Wanting and Waiting once but already like it. I'm curious who the other musicians playing on this are.

Exactly what I thought. If you like the band, this sounds like it fits right in and was a pleasant listen.
Chris Robinson is one of the best singers out there. I love his voice. The Crowed have always been hit or miss for me. This one is a hit.

Rock and Roll? Check. Tasty? Check. A good way to kick off 2024!

Sal, I will get to Southern Harmony and By Your Side once I finish my "Down In Jamaica (40 Years Of VP Records)" assignment '-)

I hope you know that was a joke.
