Tonight- The MC5
For Wayne Kramer, a true punk if there ever was one.
Shifting Heart- The Plugz
And speaking of true punks, The Plugz were two and out, but both "Electify Me" and "Better Luck" have remained in heavy rotation since I first discovered them 40 years ago, and now, you can buy both for $25 instead of $225.
Love Gonna Walk Out On Me- Toots Hibbert & Ben Harper
One of my favortite Toots tracks, originally found on "In The Dark," this is from "True Love," a better than average collection of duets and special guests, with everyone from Willie Nelson and Keef to Bonnie Raitt, Eric Clapton and on this one, Ben Harper.
You're Only Dreaming- Donnie Iris
Labor Day weekend, 1989, me and two other guys with clear heads and deep pockets, went to Philadelphia for opening night of the Stones' "Steel Wheels" tour and then drove to Atlantic City to catch Frank Sinatra at the MGM Grand. But in between, on Saturday night, we hung out on South Street and got to see Donnie Iris in a bar the size of a freight elevator. What a weekend! (I love this track, by the way.)
Flat Top- Goo Goo Dolls
I recently picked up a vinyl boxed set of the Goo Goo Dolls first five albums and was reminded of how much I loved these guys before John Rzeznik sold his soul to HBO. Seeing them live at CBGBs blew my face off and those five records had a similar sound and trajectory of the first five Replacements albums. Then, it was all movie ballads and Z 100 Christmas Balls. This one is from "A Boy Named Goo," the last before the awful transition. But, at least Mr. Rzeznik made some big bucks! Can't blame him for that.
You Need Me Now- Floyd Dixon
Best remembered for "Hey Bartender," here's one of Floyd Dixon's many other wonderful tunes.
Then She Said My Name- The Black Crowes
Gearing up for the new album. This is from my second favorite Crowes record, and one that I don't believe fans or the Robinson brothers look too highly on. I don't get it.

Stellar collection to listen to on this Super Bowl Sunday... Go Chiefs!
Also, really dug Abdullah's track from yesterday - listening to the album now on YT.
I've been meaning to tell you I finally got around to getting a vinyl copy of the African Head Charge you posted a while back. It's my favorite listen for the past few weeks!

Another great SOTD, and excellent liner notes too. Thanks man!!
In the new issue of Mojo, Chris Robinson says that he's not a big fan of By Your Side.
Kevin,
Yeah, but he likes "Warpaint!"
What does he know?
I had a very cool experience this past year - got to design and lay out a book about my favorite artist, Dylan, for the author. I may have mentioned this here before.
But seeing The Plugz reminds me - the book actually has an interview of Tony Marsico of The Plugz. Yeah! The interview is about the time they were Dylan's backing band on Letterman - and also about a lot of rehearsals they played together.
The book is a great read - and all kudos to the author, Ray, for that.
Check it out if you're a Dylan fan, or Plugz, or much else:
