This british quintet released their first single back in April of 2023, but it remained off my radar until I got the nudge from hpunch, who asked if I had seen them on the Colbert show. The Last Dinner Party's performance on The Late Show, knocked me out, evoking so many of my faves from Siouxsie to Sparks.
The debut, "Prelude To Ecstasy" is released today and each song is better than the last. The band and critics alike are citing influences from Kate Bush and Abba to Queen and the aformentioned Siouxsie and Sparks. I hear them all. I am also hearing Pink Floyd on the closing track "Mirror."
There is already backlash for this band, with critics tossing around the trendy phrase "industry plants."
But as Justin Hawkins said on his YouTube program, and I am paraphrasing, isn't that what the industry is supposed to do? Find talent!
The Last Dinner Party had been playing the live circuit a year before they were signed to Island Records.
Dues paid... if a bit more quickly than for most. But who cares when the songs are this fresh and exciting.
My first pass through "Prelude To Ecstasy" made me very happy.

Ill check them out...after I finish my best albums of the year list for 2023!
shades of scot muni!.. "some kinda hot"
Agreed…caught them on Colbert and was impressed, not knowing a thing about the band. That just changed and I’ll be diving into the album. Thanks, Sal.
I'll give it a shot. I caught the tail end of the song on Colbert and thought "hey, another all female band", but then I forgot about it. I'm intrigued enough by your description now.
Definitely intrigued me. Want to check out the rest. Second spin was better than the first which is always a good sign.
Here's the dog's honest truth: I was prepared to dislike them, after your description, as I'm not a fan of or indifferent to Kate Bush and Abba and Queen and Siouxsie and Sparks. But both of these are keepers! Thanks!

I think we are onto something here. Too early to really tell but sounds promising. Good stage presence from what I can see do their roadwork is paying off. The industry may have found them but I hope they don’t spoil them. Stay true girls 😀😂.
