Honky Tonk Woman- The Meters
Jammin' Me- Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
She's The Kind Of Girl- Gene Clark
Untouchable- Glenn Tilbrook
In The Tall Grass- Michael Monroe
Cut To The Chase- Rush
Spoonful- Jim Ford
Honky Tonk Woman- The Meters
Is it "Woman" or "Women?" I've seen it both ways, even on various Stones records. I've always liked this Meters take, regardless. (Is it "regardless" or "irregardless?")
Jammin' Me- Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Petty/Campbell/Dylan co-write. Best thing on that "Let Me Up" album.
She's The Kind Of Girl- Gene Clark
This was a kind of Byrds reunion, no? Gorgeous song.
Untouchable- Glenn Tilbrook
Here's that Tilbrook/Chris Braide co-write I mentioned on the Chris Braide/Andy Partridge post.
In The Tall Grass- Michael Monroe
More people need to love Michael Monroe, especially those who complain about a lack of rock and roll these days. Check out both "One Man Gang" and "Demolition 23" if you dig this track.
Cut To The Chase- Rush
Just about through with Geddy Lee's memoir, "My Effin' Life." I don't think you need to be a Rush fan to appreciate this incredibly entertaining book, though it would probably help. This is from an album Geddy called "back to basics." The album is "Counterparts" and I really love this track.
Spoonful- Jim Ford
Sly Stone, Bobby Womack, Nick Lowe & Elvis Costello all loved this
guy. Some good songs across various compilations, but the country boy
soul on the "Harlan County" album wears thin pretty quickly. The cover of "Spoonful,"
though, is genius

I’d forgotten how much I liked that Petty song,,,also the Gene Clark!
Thanks!😎
Irregardless and regardless mean the same thing, although some people wrongly assume that irregardless is a double negative. It is not. The "ir" in irregardless is intended to strengthen the negativity of "less". Irregardless is considered "non-standard", but it has been in the Webster's dictionary since 1934 and has been used before that. Interestingly, my spell check wanted to change my irregardless to regardless. Regardless is accepted as just fine by everyone. Certain pedants think irregardless is wrong (but technically it is not).
Singular or plural that Meters' cover is tip top!
Looks like a really good one.
Michael Monroe is one of MANY I'd never have known about if not for your blog - thank you.
Demolition 23 one of the best albums of the last 30. Years
Coincidentally, I'm also in the middle of Geddy Lee's memoir. A friend gave me the audiobook (read by Lee himself) as a birthday present. I've never actually listened to Rush all that much, but his story resonates with me because my father had a very similar experience to his parents. Now I'm going to have to go back and catch up on 40 or 50 years' worth of music!

Irregardless, it's a good mix!
What did Tom have against Vanessa Redgrave, though?
Saw Mr. Tilbrook live 3 or 4 times around the Incomplete and Transatlantic days (and maybe the first Fluffers album), and have loved Untouchable for a long time. The descending chords during the last part are so cool. I remember the waves of joy that spread through me when he and the band launched into this one.
There are other sublime tracks from that period, like This is Where You Ain't and Parallel World, but Untouchable is aptly named.
"What did Tom have against Vanessa Redgrave, though?"
Maybe that was Bob's line.
A few months back, you recommended "The Whits Label Promo Society" books. I ordered them that same day, though they've been on the "On Deck" shelf for a while. But I just finished the first volume and I'm into the second one. Great essays, interesting choices, and I've discovered som lost classic albums. Thanks !
